Brakes R1150R

Post by makia »

Hi
I am getting the flashing brake lights on my 2001 R1150R intermittently the warning is for low brake fluid level which seems to be okay. The bike is due soon for it's next service has anyone come across this problem? I was wondering if the brake lines had become sponge and need replacing>

My reply isn't directly answering your question but i would suggest from my recent experience with my 2001 R1150R (ABS) that if you haven't done so it might be wise to consider upgrading your brake hoses if you still have the original hoses fitted.

The rubber hoses have a rather short lifespan, (someone on this forum will be able to confirm the lifespan of rubber hoses I'm sure) having said that, mine lasted until a few months back before they split.

For what it's worth I got a good deal through PashnitMoto who sell Galfer SS brake lines. PasnitMoto sell worldwide.

I admit your brake light indicator could be warning you of a completely different fault.

You can go w/Spiegler & also switch to their Speed Bleeders in the same shipment.

Low battery voltage also causes this from what I read on these forums.

The low fluid warning lights are for the fluid levels in the wheel circuits. Those reservoirs are on the ABS unit (You need to pull the gas tank off, to check/fill them).

The fluid levels in the control circuits don't ever drop (unless leaking).
I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray...

Hi thank you for your response it seems the most logical I checked the fluid level before I read your post this morning In the front and back (the ones without removing the seat) they seemed good if anything a little to full.
Is it hard to check the fluid levels once you remove the seat?
Many thanks
