Fluids

Post by rokinrider »

Been searching, still confused. I need to change diff and tranny next week. From what I've read any thing goes, my question is the differential oil the same as the transmission? I'm going to go with a high end synthetic just not sure, Redline Royal purple, Mobil one???? 75W-90 or 75W 140??? Sorry to start an oil thread I'm just too cheap to go with what the dealer sells for big $$$ and is someone elses oil with the factory name.
I hope everyone is having a great Memorial weekend.....

The dealer stated that since the oil changes are now 600 mile and 12K intervals, the oil used for the FD can be the same as used for the tranny. For peace of mind I still used the 75/140 synthetic gear oil for the FD which is what they recommended B4 the updated oil change intervals and volume reduction to 180ml.

Dealer blather. The actual BMW specification calls for 75-80 in the rear drive. Transmission can use a 75-140 weight. And that's the specs for the 12k change interval from BMW-Motorrad. Who you gonna believe?
