Bike cut out
On a ride today while approaching a red light, as I was down shifting (blipping the throttle), the bike suddenly cut out. With traffic rushing up behind, I quickly found netural and restarted the engine and carried on. Anyone have any idea what my have caused this? This is the first time this has ever happened to me on a motorbike.

Re: Bike cut out
Could be several things but possibly nothing of importance. Was bike warmed up completely or still somewhat cold? How many miles, state of tune and so on? If it persists especially if engine warm then I would start looking for problems.

Re: Bike cut out
Neutral setting maybe a bit low ... Should ideally be at 1100 rpm. By the way to restart you do not need to find neutral. Just pull the clutch and restart ...

towerworker thanks for input. Bike has 12k (miles) and was reasonably warm from about a 10mile run and in good tune. omg1010 just an old habit of mine to look for neutral first. Setting around 11-1200rpm. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

If idling at 11 to 1200 that's should eliminate idle being set too low. And a 10 mile run is ample too. Maybe a tad bit of trash or water in tank? If fuel filter is still original might consider changing it to be on safe side.

Re: Bike cut out
Idle sounds good... and it was plenty warm... and I assume the antifreeze was fresh...
I would guess that it was something electrical. It might have been ignition/spark related, or something else in the electrical system of the bike.
That is just based on experience, nothing specific to your bike or situation. It's just hard to make any specific suggestions about a one time event (so far). Let us know if it keeps happening.
Good luck that it never happens again.

I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray...
Re: Bike cut out
I have been having the exact same problem 04 20K. down shifting to first gear and still rollling the bke stalls. it has happened on several occaisions. it doesn't seem to matter if thr bike is warmed up or not. I have either started it usinfg the starter or used second gear with enough momentum and the bike has started right up. new plugs and recent tune.BCBlueR wrote:On a ride today while approaching a red light, as I was down shifting (blipping the throttle), the bike suddenly cut out.
