Engine Missing Slightly, Coocase Top Box & WIndscreens

Post by kjw1150 »

Hi

Got my 02 r1150rt 6 weeks ago and just wondered if it's normal to feel as if the engine is missing slightly above 70mph. Can't decide if this is wind effect or engine issue. If engine issue what's the solution? As you can tell not very techy!!

Also, got a Coocase V50 Reflex top box which doesn't appear to fit the bike and have had to have a plate made so I can attach to the standard rack. Has anyone any idea if the Coocase adaptor plate fits the standard rack. I spent hours trying to figure out how it fitted but just couldn't work it out hence the reason for the plate being made.

And if you're wondering why I didn't get a Givi etc, I bought the bike from a dealer and he chucked it in. Think I know the reason why now :doubt:

Lastly my standard screen is about 2" short - is there some sort of attachment I can get to increase the height or do I need to purchase a whole new screen. Cee Baileys do a screen that, by all accounts is magic, but it's really pricey to get it delivered to the UK.

Any assistance on any of the above would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Thanks for the link. Appreciated.

As you can see I'm new here but once I'd got my head around it I realised the answer would be here somewhere - I just had to put some effort in!

I found a topic on windshields and it took me to laminarlip. I think this is exactly what I'm looking for so I read the testimonials and ordered immediately. Hopefully be with me pretty soon and I can enjoy the rest of our summer here in Scotland without getting battered by the wind.

It crossed my mind that maybe the developers at BMW would have realised the standard screen wasn't quite tall enough as they were testing it? I'm only 5'8" and it still too short for me.

Where in the UK are you?

Re the base plate for the top-box - if you don't want click-clip removal capability you can easily bolt the box down to the standard rank uprights with a perspex breadboard plate.

If you're in the South East we could meet up sometime and I'll show you how I've done the top-box on my bike.

Hi Riceburner

Am in Scotland so not ideal!

Have you got a photo of how you've attached the top box. I eventually got an aluminium plate made which i screwed to the rack then bottled the universal plate to that. Works fine but it would be interesting to see how you did it.

Cheers

I think thats the same idea as riceburner only he used a plastic chopping board. I copied his method and it works for me. I'm over here in N.Ireland, just outside Belfast. I have an 03 r1150r.

Thanks and that's now got me thinking plastic might be better. Off to find a black chopping board and a jig-saw.
If you ever get over the Irish Sea give me a shout.

Might be a problem finding a black chopping board. I could only find white so painted it black. Doesnt matter so much as it isnt noticable unless I point it out to someone. Also added benefit of getting a set of knives free with the board lol!

Mine's white too - I tried painting it, but it just came off again!

Mine is setup so that the bolts go through (in order): The holes in the OE uprights, the plastic board, the top-box base, the Dural plate, a washer. They are then bolted down. luckily I found some bolts that were just the right length and so I didn't have any excess to cut off.

By using the layout of the original rack I minimised faff and extra bolts etc. (it was a pain to get it all lined up correctly so the box is central and square to the bike - but somehow I managed it!)

One other thing. When mine is all bolted up there's a certain amount of compression in the uprights - they're being pushed apart every so slightly - I think this gives the whole setup some rigidity. (It DOES flex about - but I've had a weekends camping gear in the top-box without any troubles.) Just ensure you check the bolts that hold the uprights to the grab-handles occasionally - they're the bolts that will loosen off.
