Battery Swapout direct Replacement for $90 (Yuasa YTX14-BS)

Just to let evryone know (I think many regulars know this already), I can confirm the Yuasa YTX14-BS is the exact same battery as the original (Exide) battery in our bikes. I purchased it from Bikebandit for $90 (sorry BMW)! My original did not die but having a 2007 I just thought it would be a good idea to replace it.

The battery came with the electrolyte in a seperate pouch so you can keep it on your shelf until you are ready to activate it which is super easy. Once you seal it up after adding the fluid and give it an initial charge it's good to go maintenance free for I hope another 3 years.

I heard there is a heavier duty version as well, YTX14H-BS ?
Can you put in the bike dead/new and use the battery tender plus to charge it initially?

Strange that a YTX14-BS came with separate electrolyte.
I ran a Yuasa14-BS (borrowed from my Valkyrie) in my 07 R1200R for a week or so when the original battery went belly up, and it's definately an AGM type battery and not the old lead acid type..

I'm not Dave but I put an Autozone branded AGM battery in my '07 last July and it's doing fine. As for charging AGM batteries and lead acid batteries that are factory filled are also charged at the factory before shipment so unless it's been sitting for a LONG time it should be plug and play.

Mine was shipped dry, so shelf life is not an issue.

Installed an "H" one today, replacing the non H Yuasa... which was looking sluggish after sitting 6 weeks without being charged (or the bike ridden..) Cost was $85 from friendly local wrench.. he filled it and charged it overnight. Of course once I ordered it - the old battery which wasn't showing near 12.6V, suddenly showed 12.7V..

Go figure..

Kind of related Battery question.
A few people related that they had to add acid to a new YTX14H-BS battery. I've ordered more than a few AGM type motorcycle batteries over the years (Wesco/Panasonic but never Yuasa) and being sealed type batteries they come ready to go through UPS/FED or whatever. I've never added acid to an AGM battery.
I've also ordered a couple of old type lead acid batteries and they came dry and had to have acid added and an initial charge put on them.
So - Question is, do you really have to add acid to a new Yuasa AGM battery?

The one I bought on line came dry, with acid containers to fill it with. It all depends on the battery. Mfgrs like to store them dry because the lifespan starts when the acid goes in.

Aside from the "H" in the PN - it's identical in ALL respects to the YTX14-BS that it replaced. The bike does crank faster with this battery then the old one (even at the same "rest voltage".. so I suspect it has a few more CCA's available..)

Found the info - the non-H has 220CCA, the H has 240CCA which would account for the improved cranking speed.
