Ditto on the Z-Technic S/S exhaust from Beemer Boneyard. It took some work to fit over the stock pipe coming out of the cat, its almost the same size. I had a very small leak where the stock pipe did not come up all the way to cover one of the expansion holes on the muffler. To solve this I used some Permetex High Temperature sealant to run a nice small beed that is not noticable even when you look closely. Hey, I put this on during the winter time, what else was I going to do except go skiing--I needed a brake from that! Anyway, I really like the sound especially with the baffle out and it looks great.

Does "slip on" literally mean "slip on"? Is there anything other than resetting the computer that has to be done? There is a Leo Vince exhaust on eBay that I might pull the trigger on and hoping this is something I can install myself.

Ok, this might be a dumb question, but I noticed that some of the Akrapovic's for the R1200R's have 2 exhaust tips, and others only 1. What gives? From what I can gather it based on the model year of the bike, or the year that the can was produced. On their site, they show 2011 with 1 outlet, where as other sites that sell for older years are 2 outlets....

As I said in one of my earlier posts, this is the first mod I plan to make on the bike (as soon as I take delivery) :?

My two cents-

I believe Akrapovic makes an outstanding product. I researched a can for my current bike would have bought this brand had I not moved to the BMW.

That said, have you seen the performance graph for the R1200R can? I fully get the fact that slip-ons only make about +3 horsepower,(at best) but the way I read it, it's quite a bit of $ for basically the same performance profile.

Still, I was inclined to go for it anyway, but someone in the industry recommended Remus.

Now, the price point isn't so much better, but it is a well respected brand, common to
BMWs... so, in the end, I think folks are correct and it's a matter of preference, but I sure
would like to get a bit more for my $ than simply weight savings and if not, then maybe a reasonable price... hey, I'm just saying...

Mr. Breeze! based on what I've read, you're correct.... the dual outlet is last year's (?) and the single (as shown on the BMW website is the current design)

Oh, and the same person confirmed that there's no remapping required for the R1200R... something to do with a sensor that performs this for you after the exhaust profile changes after the install.

I have the zTechnik full system. Very nice. If you keep the db killer in it's pretty similar to stock (a tad more on top end), but with it out there is a small dip around 3K but more HP and torque everywhere else.

here are links to dyno charts of both full and slip-on.

full system saves 3.5lbs, slip-on saves 1.5lbs.

hi all
laser fitted , came with a sports baffle , normal one in at the moment , little louder than stock.
think if the sports one was fitted would need fueling sorted out as you can see through it .
the exhaust weighs half of the original.
some days its not worth chewing through the straps and chains in the morning

Seeing as nobody else has answered your question: Twin outlet is for bikes up to 2011 and the single outlet is for the newer twn cam model post, 2011 on.

Oh yes - almost forgot. My Akropovic Titanium landed today, picked up as an absolute buy it now bargain from E.Bay last week - it even came in it's original packaging with the Akropovic street legal certificate. About 10 months old and by the looks the guy never used his bike. Had it for a test run (in the rain and howling wind here in the UK) this afternoon - I'm VERY impressed :D Anybody consdiring an aftermarket zorst, forget the cheapos and spend some money on a top notch bit of kit like this and you'll not be disappointed. I've had the Scorpions and such like and they do nothing but make a louder noise and creat big holes in the power delivery. This isn't actually that loud but it gives a lovely deep burble - baffle in or out - and it really does make a lot of difference to low speed riding - the smoother throttle respose is now very noticeable.

Thanks ...Lighter unit, maybe by half… similar to others posts, it seemed to have better throttle response, but that’s probably an emotional measurement because I took the cases off and was running it up to the break-in rev limit…. fantastic low growl with a slight burble if I close off the throttle abruptly, reminding me of the Triumph (BTW baffle is removed). Carbon skin doesn’t get as hot and cools faster than the stainless, but not a big deal since I have the cases on most of the time…. it might be a bit cooler on the wife’s left foot though?

I really like the looks of Dewi’s TI Akropovic too… Y pipe, dual outlet, laser etched logo… very nice.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned Leo Vince exhaust. I just got my 2012 R12R and will be waiting for at least 6,000 if not 12,000 mile to change the muffler but my dealer was really pro Leo Vince when I was in for my 600 mile service. I was looking at the upgrades the mechanics were making to their bikes.

Leo Vince was in the running as well, they seem to make a good product with a good history.

Was there a technical recommendation to wait on the exhaust replacement or just no rush on your part?

The message I got was that it is best to wait for a break in period before adding the exhaust although not a mandatory requirement. These engines are "adaptive" and will break in according to your riding style and the computer actually adjusts to this. I got the sense that it is best to let the engine get a full break in and that can take up to 12,000 miles. So honestly this is really just my preference as I am not in a hurry but at the same time I want to be very careful. I plan to hold on to this bike for a very long time. If I asked them to put on the exhaust now with only 600 miles they would do it.

Only applies if you are using a synthetic silencer [-X - it's fine if you are using a conventional, or dino style silencer :badgrin:

Of course as long as the muffler bearings are moly coated either way :twisted:
