Aluminum Panniers
Has anyone put aluminum panniers on their R1200R? If so do they have pictures?
Was it difficult?
I would like some that load from the top.

I put Hepco & Becker 40 litre panniers on for a trip to Norway last month. No problems at all
I don't know how to post pics on here, I could email one if that helps.
cheers

emailed you a pic. In addition to the top box and panniers, you need a compatible rear luggage rack and frames to mount the top box and panniers on. I got the H&B frames and rear rack pretty cheap on ebay, otherwise they add about the same cost as the panniers to the total bill.

Re: Aluminum Panniers
Twisted throttle has the SWmototec racks - from which you can install alu TRAX or Gobi panniers

I'm sure I've seen pics on this forum of the TRAX bags on a R

Re: Aluminum Panniers
Mark, I have always been a fan of top loading panniers, but recently mounted a pair of Micatech panniers on my R1200R and I love them. They are side-loading BUT the hinge is partway up the side so that your stuff stays in when you open the case. I tend to overpack a bit and always have a duffel or a tent or something mounted on top of the cases. the side opening feature lets me get to the case without removing the duffel. Something to think about. Micatech has very good customer support. Their cases mount on SWMototech frames which fit the R1200R very well, and they can be taken off very easily. My wife can still ride with the cases installed. Good luck with your choice. dingle

plenty of room for the passenger, sat up there myself while on a ferry crossing, and confirmed by partner when I got back. Did the photo ever get to you in the end?

If it did I can't find it. I've looked in trash and junk mail and can't find it.dicebox wrote:Mark
