Tach Failure

I've seen multiple notes related to tach failure, but mine looks more like an actual failure? Tach just quit. Checked fue F1 and fine. Even swapped with F2. No change. All instrument lights are nice and bright, so figure not a bad ground. Battery light and low fuel appear to be "normal" (I hate that word). Would a less than ideal ground allow all but tach to work? Pulling the tank isn't so easy as my old /5 and /7!

Runs fine, so pretty sure the inductor is fine?

My initial thought is that an over-tightened wire tie (a known problem on these bikes) has parted the tach's signal wire. Check under the triple-tree on the right-hand side behind the headlight to see if the wiring there shows signs of stress. If you can get inside the outer sheath, I think the tach wire is black. You can tell if a wire has broken inside the insulation by gently pulling on them to see if one stretches more than usual.

Problem turned out to be a intermittent connection in 12 volt supply to tach. Trouble traced to 3 pin connector feeding voltage to igintion terminal on tach. Pulled pins from connector and scraped oxidation from pins, replaced and problem solved.

Don't think the too tight cable ties is the issue. Pretty loose. Although, being the 3rd owner, any issues with ties could have been induced and now showing up.

Taking the tach apart and cleaning the connector might be a solution. If I read the note correct? Not an external connection?
