Bent front rim.

Okay, it was probably my own damn fault. It was late in the evening, I was anxious to get home, and I was breaking my two-second follow rule, but the pickup in front of me was only doing about 40, and I was hoping to maybe sneak by him on the next straight stretch. Suddenly a dark spot in the road appeared from between his wheels, right in my path. There was no time to react, and I felt a vicious "wham" on the front end. It wasn't like dropping into a pothole or hitting an object, and I didn't go back to check the road surface, so I still don't know what did the damage. Thankfully, the bike held rock-steady, so I backed off a bit and toodled on home.
It wasn't until a week later, looking the bike over in the garage, I noticed the rather impressive dent on the left side of the front rim. It still holds air, but it looks like hell. Now, what to do? A new rim runs about $850, so I'm thinking I'll fix this one. My old R65LS had a bent rim that I bashed back into shape with a 14-Lb (6.36 Kg) sledge and some hardwood forms. But when I went to remove the 1200 wheel, I found I needed a special wrench (what the hell is it with BMW these days?), which I got at Touratech for less than 10 bucks. You could give the BMW wheel guru Woody a call, he'll fix up your wheel nicely for you if you decided not to try and fix the alloy wheels yourself.
I can't say enough nice things about Woody's and the work he has done for me. He is a real artist and his work is second to none.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, but I found this shop to do a great job at a great price. It's amazing what kind of a hit your tires and wheels can take and still keep you on the road.

I found out too late I could have purchased tire and wheel insurance. I hit a pot hole and bent the crap out of the front AND the rear rim. It was about 400 bucks to get both repaired. They aren't perfect, but they work fine. They run out straight. I didn't pay extra to have them painted to really look perfect.

They are alloy. I have no repair skills. I had it done through the dealer. I hit something hard today, again; haven't looked yet to see if there is a new wang in the rim. Hope not. Feel your pain. Hope it works out.
