Bike just quit running.
New today. Just bought an R1150 R 2002 with 7800 miles. Riding into work today and the bike just quit, like it ran out of gas. Checked fuel pump fuse and seemed OK. The bike will turn over but makes a whining noise when the key is turned on and when the starter button is released. Fresh tank of gas two days ago. I have put 300 miles on it since owning it and it ran fine until this morning.

I assume the kickstand is up when you are trying to start it. If so, check the bolt attaching the kickstand to the frame. Mine came loose causing the sensor switch to come out of position. It wouldn't start until I reattached it.
If the tank has been on it's side, then the bike wont start until you reset the motronic unit.
Hopefully, the problem is a simple fix like these.

Thanks, Kickstand is up. I will check the bolt. A lot of posts on this site refer to the fuel filter. Never heard the whining noise with the fuel pump until this issue occurred.
Re: Bike just quit running.
Welcome twinpatrick! Your engine should start in neutral regardless of kickstand position, so try starting it in neutral.
The whining is the normal sound of the fuel pump. It comes on for a few seconds after key-on until pressure is built up. If you also hear it after you crank, that probably means the engine is getting fuel, so that kind of rules out both its fuse being blown and the quick-disconnects in the fuel line (under the the right side of the tank) parted, but that's worth checking anyway, right after you verify the position of your kill switch.
From there, I would try cranking it a little then remove a plug (remember to use the little plastic boot-puller in your toolkit so you don't ruin a spark plug wire) to verify you can see and smell gas on it. Then clamp it to an unpainted part of the cylinder head and try cranking the engine and looking for a spark at the electrode.
If you have fuel, and you have spark (and compression) your engine should run!
Oh, do you know about the too-tight zip-ties under the headlight? Do a search and you will see which ones to cut off and where to look for wire damage. Maybe a wire got chafed!
Let us know what you find.

Hi-
Did you ever find out the problem and why your 02' R1150R stalled while riding. My bike did the same thing today. I suspect the fuel line came off the fuel filter inside the tank b/c I recently changed these lines. But don't know anything yet, I just want to get it home.

Yea, it was the fuel line. Found a mechanic who works for a local dealership and works out of his house on Sundays and Mondays. Had him change every fluid on the bike, new tires, adjust the valves and put metal Q/D's on the bike. 7,000 miles and one oil change later and I am hooked for life on this bike. Still squeaking out some New Jersey bonus riding days.
