Hmm... I'm torn on this. On one hand, definitely ridiculous. On the other hand, probably better than the crappy plastic shopping bags I end up wrapping my spare oil jugs in when I have to carry some.

True. Could also buy oil on the road.

My bike is still in the break-in period AKA the first 12-20k miles or whatever it is. So if I head out even for a decent day ride, say 500 miles, I feel the need to bring some earl.

Less expensive and better! A Ziploc 'might' hold in some leaking oil....that Zipper pouch surely will NOT!

I have one in my oil-burner 335d. The case has Velcro on the back, making it adhere to the fabric wall of the trunk. The case was less than $5, but I don't remember where I bought it. Because of the urea tanks underneath the 335d's trunk, there's no where else to store a quart.

On the R12R, I replaced the plastic yoke caps with OEM milled-aluminum caps. I might have a problem.

It is like trying not to look at a traffic accident. I can't help but want one in my Christmas Stocking.

Probably expensive and OTT. However keep something similar for two small 1/2 ltr plastic oil contains. I found using plastic bags does not stand up to the long term virbration in panniers or top box. I got my expensive OTT bag as part of a BMW wheel cleaning kit. Works well for me and never had a problem with oil leaking in my panniers. I think its a good thing to keep your stuff sorted and good investment one might say.

get an MSR fuel bottle, put oil in it and you don't have to worry about leaking. They come in different sizes.
