vent lines

It had been a while since I had the tank off. So I undid the vent lines and they both came off the same, usually one has the barb and the other does not. How do I tell which goes where.

There is a schematic sticker that shows the routing of the lines stuck to the bike under the seat.

When you take the barbs off, you have to leave one on top side and one on the bottom side. I have made the same mistake . You have to find which line is the gas tank overflow line. (That line that goes down by the foot peg). Then you have to find the top line that goes to the overflow. You have to blow into the lines one at a time and put your finger over the overflow hole at the top of the filler neck on the gas tank to see which line is the overflow line. You will not make this mistake again! Trust me.

When you get them figured out (see below), install a ZipTie on opposing ends of each connecting adapter. That way, they will not allow you to pull both hoses off of the same side of both adapters.

I recommend you do the hose blow test with the gas cap closed/locked. When you blow thru the hoses leading rightward to the fuel tank:

--One will give the sensation of inflating a balloon, increasing effort as you exhale ("inflating" the fuel tank). That hose goes rearward to the fuel canister center spigot.

--The other will hiss audibly at the gas cap, possibly shooting out water trapped in low dips of the hose. That water spurting out is why you perform the test with the cap closed. Bike on the side stand also helps eject that water or dirt you blow out the "rain drain" port. That hose goes to the street drain to the footpeg area.
