Empty Bolt Holes

Post by objectuser »

After removing my windscreen, I had the empty holes in the picture below. Does something go in there or are they empty stock?

Thanks!

I dunno, never saw an R12R without a screen.
If you don't like the empty holes, put the bolts back in.

I avoid screens as much as possible and put the screws back in the holes to avoid losing them. Also keeps out rain.

I'm just asking if the R comes with bolts in those holes from the factory, or if they're empty from the factory.

I don't know. The parts fiche of the "upper fork cross brace" doesn't show the holes (or any bolts).

I'd have to double-check when I get home, but from this pic, it looks like that's where the brake/clutch cables are secured.

Nice, thanks!

It does look like that. Very surprising.

So I guess when people install screens or whatever, they remove those clips. Not like those lines are going anywhere though ...

But the photo in the first post shows a pre-facelifted R12R yoke (and instrumentation), and the link Nathan posted shows a 2011+ model. That whole area-- yoke, screen mounts, even the bars -- were redesigned with the 2011 model. Fairly sure the screen mounts were moved from top to side.

Why not reinsert the screws (oval M6x16s) you took out to remove your windscreen?

Good point about the redesign. Mine is a 2009.

I can do that, sure. My question is less about what I should do for those holes than it is about what was there originally. I bought my bike with a screen. I'm wondering if anything was there from the factory.

Like yours, my 2009 was ordered with the sport screen from the factory, so not sure. I would guess the bikes with no screens ship with screws or threaded caps in the holes. Otherwise, kinda looks unfinished and water could pool in the holes.

What crazy horse says! Both my '09 and '11 were purchased with no screen. Both bikes had the bolts mounted when I took delivery. When I purchased the frames (yes I had to buy two because of the mounts being moved to the side on the newer bike) they also came with the mounting bolts so I had an extra set for each bike.
