Helmet with internal sun visor

Post by zeke »

Gentleman,
I have been doing some searching for a new helmet. I really like the idea of having an integrated sun visor so I don't have to swap visors, which is real pain since I leave for work when it is dark and return when it is light. Not so much interested in all the other bells and whistles, comm systems, etc

Let me know your helmet brand and if you like the sun visor feature and find it helpful. Thanks

i have 2 of them
hjc is-16 (full-face) and zeus zs3000a (modular)

the reviews are here:
http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcyc ... hjc/is-16/
http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/zeus-hel ... s-zs-3000/

both are great helmets
zeus is noisier than the hjc but the overall length is greater. so i would feel wind chill on my neck with hjc but not zeus

some folks don't like the placement of sun visor lever on the hjc. i think it's great if you use a helmet bluetooth headset, since it's usually mounted on the left of helmet. so on my zs3000, i had to move the bluetooth more toward the rear of the helmet so it doesn't interfere with the sun visor lever. on the is16 it's mounted right next to my face and is easier to access.

is16 liner pressures my head unevenly. so after i remove the helmet my hair would look all funny. the zeus, on the other hand, doesn't make my hair look funny.

i still own both but zeus is my primary and is-16 is my backup. i prefer the quietness and the location of sun visor lever of the is16. But the convenience of the modular and lengthier zs3000 wins me over.

another good thing about the hjc is it's easier to get replacement parts and stuff in the US. Many motorcycle dealers/stores carry them. I bought the zs3000 during my trip to Taiwan. i think the only place u can get parts for zeus in the US is on ebay....

I have a Caberg Trip Flip-Front helmet which (like many Flip-Front's) includes a sun visor which can be raised/lowered with the lid open or closed. I think the Trip model is discontinued now but there is a replacement for it in the range. Not an expensive bash-hat, and I've not tested how well it works in a crash and don't wish to. But it fits well, isn't loud as lids go, is easy to fasten and it's easy to operate one-handed (inc the sun visor bit). You can run with the helmet flipped open and the sun visor in place, and I often do when riding in town, or into a village, when stopped at lights etc. etc.

I've used flip lids for the last 3 or 4 years now. I know some people express concern that a flip lid isn't as strong as a full-face if you bin it, but the convenience is great as well as the sun visor. I can't see me ever going back to a full-face lid tbh.

I used an HJC IS-16 for 2 seasons until I decided I wanted a helmet with better ventilation. I now use a Shoei X-11 which I can't praise enough. I do miss the internal sun visor on the IS-16, now I'm forced to carry two shields (clear and smoked). For the money the HJC was a good buy, IIRC it cost me $143 from NewEnough.com, and the Shoei quite a few multiples of that.

My wife and I recently bought Shoei Neotec (2) and are really happy with them. Quiet, very good quality, really effective ventilation. Make sure you measure your head twice before you buy them... :)

The Scorpion EXE 900 hurt my cheekbones, so I just bought a C3.
(C3 is a pricey helmet, but man there is nothing like the quiet of a Schuberth)

Both these helmets are modular, and have integrated sun visors.

Whatever you do, try the helmet on before you buy it.

Schuberth S2 pro for me.

This is my second Schuberth helmet. They fit very well and very comfortably and are the quietest helmet I've had. I know it's a lot of money for a helmet but it's a lot of helmet for the money! Your extremely valuable head will thank you.

+1 on the Schuberth S2 Pro. Excellent helmet.....quiet and comfortable.

I also have a BMW 4 series Carbon flip-front (Also made by Schuberth) which is
very convenient although it doesn't have a sun visor. 8)

To my knowledge all modern Schuberth helmets have the internal sun visor. And it is said that the full face models are among the quietest available. Having tried several helmets myself (now I have the S1 Carbon) I can confirm that. But it is also known that Schuberth helmets don't fit any head (egg heads?) ...

Gents,
Appreciate the input. I opted to get the Nolan N43E. I got the straight 3/4 face version not the modular hybird deal. So far it is a drastic improvement over my current lid. Comfort has been improved dramatically, and it has the internal sun visor. I'll post a more informative review that interwsts anyone. Just got the helmet yesterday so my thoughts thus far are based on the 30 min I had it on last night.

best one imho, is the AGV Horizon. I did a lot of searching and considering and ended up with the Horizon. Pretty quiet, fits fine and has built in "cubby holes" for speakers in ear cups and micro phone in chin area....thing is awesome i love it. I velcroed in one of these NS560 bluetooth things that my wife got me for christmas. Best set up i've had. But, with that said, ive only owned two other helmets with no bluetooth connection....
