Adjustable Handlebars-Thar Bars

Post by philm35 »

Since I bought my R1150R new in 2004, I've never been able to get comfortable with the handlebars. I tried bar-backs, and have been riding with Wunderlich Touring Wellness bars for some years... but the result has always been forearm fatigue due to improper width and angles that forced me to contort my wrists.

I recently learned about TharBars in another forum. They are made to order by an engineer named Rob Tharelson in Santa Maria, CA, and they are fully adjustable for height and angle. He has recently started making these bars for BMW R1150R's and R1200R's.

After installing them today, I rode for the first time without pain in my wrists and forearms. These bars have enough adjustment to dial in a riding position that works. They do require the use of bar-backs for mounting. I just wish I had these things 8 years ago, when I started riding this bike. While the machining is not as slick as something you'd expect from Verholen or Wunderlich, they don't look bad once installed. Besides, it's better to feel good than to look good.

If you've been having issues with handlebar ergos on your R, I recommend giving these bars a try. (DISCLAIMER: I have no connection with this company, other than as a very satisfied customer).

Looks a bit like the old Tommaselli/ Jota bars - good idea though!
