Who said Australia was a hot country?

Post by MIXR »

Short run over the mountains last season in the depths of Winter. The Avon makes a lousy snow tyre as I discovered when I went 'off-road' to check a fishing hole that I catch trout in during the warmer months!

Proof that we do ride all year round downunder!

DJ - The good old Snowy Mountains Highway from Adaminaby across to Talbingo. Had snow most of the way as there was a huge dump the previous weekend and through the week leading up to the ride. This was one of the few clear bits with enough sun to take a shot.

Lots of ice and snow over the road on the higher and more shaded areas through the hills and trees. Be careful. This was a very slow run compared to the warp speeds we usually do through these roads.

You may get turned back if you are picked up at a chain-fitting station as well. The roads had been cleared for two days before I went through, but it would have been impossible (and too risky) to try it earlier in the week. Was a great trip though - I'll remember it for a long time!

Also DJ - Many of the 'good' roads are closed over Winter. Only accessible by tracked vehicles. I do regular trips over the mountains to Corryong - We should meet up next summer. Maybe a 'bash' of some sort?

Last weekend of Feb or early March we do a ride to Adaminiby and back to Melbourne. DJ hasn't come along yet, but I'm workin' on him.

DJ, and other Vic/NSW riders can book in for the BMWMCC Club ride over the Cup weekend.

Boxerboy, Feb March would be a perfect time around there.

The last club ride on cup weekend included the best of both worlds. It had snowed for two days before we arrived at Khancoban and then had glorious riding weather for the four days, with the bonus of fresh snow everywhere but on the road!
Those roads are some of the best motorcycling i have done anywhere.

Spot on Marko - Great roads. This is an easy day ride for me from Canberra and I often (in summer) do day runs through the Alpine Way, Tooma Dam Road, Elliots Way, Snowy Highway etc. Made myself 'car-sick' once as there were so many twisty bits on the bike. It's a long day of nothing but winding roads! Good thing is that the 'sport bikes' and 'cruisers' can't handle the rough patches and really tight stuff, so not too many of them come back for a second run. This is 'R' country (but I'm biased)!

Sounds like a plan!
Feb/March/April would be ideal.
There should be a few takers even if it is only for 3 or 4 days.

As i said, i will be there on the Melbourne Cup Day long weekend and hoping for good weather, but would be interested in a return visit in the new year if schedule permits.
