I did not find any fittings that would help. The fairing will touch on the tank. Since the fairing is elastic the contact will not harm it, but is rather a nuisance. The other issue (touching the fork leg) occurred only once when I rode at high speed over rough terrain.

Do you have any of pics of the fairing touching the tank? Why do you say there is no possibility of harm? I often turn my steering lock to lock when maneuvering/parking my bike in the garage and I wouldn't want to scratch my tank. I plan to order one of these fairings in a few weeks when the Minnesota permafrost melts (coldest first day of Spring in 48 years today! Damn global warming...). I'll gladly work around the fairing touching the tank if the fairing provides a relatively buffet free ride for me with better protection than the sport shield.

Thanks for the hint. I had some ideas in mind that were a bit more convoluted. Your solution sounds much better.

Was your extension plate (i.e. "XP") bent in any way or was it just a flat plate bolted out towards the front? Once the XP is in place, can the windshield bracket be attached/removed without removing the headlight? This would be a great benefit for warm weather.

Any chance you kept a picture of your handy work? Or could you get your friend to provide us a picture?

Mine was pretty much flat. Somewhere I have a spare I made, I'll try to get it out tomorrow to take a photo (and perhaps some idea on dimensions.) And it appeared to be able to remove the bracket without removing the headlight by simply removing the screws from the windshield bracket to the extension I made - leaving the extension in place.

That will be great. My first attempt was a "U" or channel shaped bracket that worked great - tilts the shield back as much as the handguards will allow. Only problem, the headlight cover ($143.00) would have to be cut away to allow it to fit.

I'll be patiently waiting. I know, I'll go out and shovel some more snow...

Very nice looking. Both the product, and the packaging. I am, on occasion, amazed at the real quality some companies put into their packaging systems. Apple computer is a master at this, and it looks like Wunderlich also pays attention to their presentation. Looking forward to watching your installation and first tests.

Can never say what'll work for me based on someone elses experience - darn windshields.

5' 11" x 32" inseam, ride style unslouched in a Sargent saddle. My used 07 came with sport- and 20" screens. I like to ride fast and far and neither screen worked for me at all. I bought a new (2012) Cee Bailey 25" and couldn't be happier. The wind clips the top of my helmet (not silent but not awful noise) and then the vents - perfect. My eyeballs do not get scoured (with glasses on, of course). Clear line of sight breaks over the top edge of the plexi about 25' ahead - not a problem day or night. I am very pleased with this product.

Hey, Moo, I'm looking at one of those, too (25), because the one I have now, which may be a Cee B is about 21 and the buffeting is annoying at speed. I have the BMW mounts that came with the Sport, it is a pretty stout frame, but when I get over 75 and it is windy that shield certainly does some vibrating.

I'm wondering if a 25 would vibrate even more? Have you noticed that at all? Thanks. I'm almost 5'11" in the morning .

My shield may be a bit wider at bottom, it has the cutouts that fit around the turn signal stalks, I wonder if I would feel more arm buffeting with a narrower shield...

I am Steve Horti,having aWunderlich Trophy on my 2012 R1200R (apple red metallic).I am completelly satisfied with that.Good protection up to my chin,helmet is in clean air.Expensive?? Yes it is.Worth the money?For me yes.Buffeting?Not really.

Looks really nice. Can you let me know if at full, stearing does your fairing touch the tank? Mine does and until now the support I received from Wunderlich was subpar. They suggested me to try to bend the brackets

The only difference I can see that my bike is a pre 2010 version, however the fairing seems to be the same for all the R1200R versions.

It seems I am on my own with my problem. Check these pictures. Clearly the fairing touches the gas tank on both sides. Plastic strips on the fairing and the tank are there for protecting the finish on both. I am in a close to 2 weeks discussion with Wunderlich. Up to now they've been far from being helpful. Should I not be happy with the riding experience I would have returned the fairing. For now I am still awaiting the latest reply from the Wunderlich guys. Hope they will finally provide some useful hint. I can suspect only two options: either my item is defective or despite what Wunderlich claims the pre and post 2010 models require different brackets.

Mine too touches the tank on the seam but only the right-hand side and just barely.

Does yours touch more on one side or the other?

Kinda disappointing for what is probably the best wind screen/fairing I have had on any bike. It has fair wind protection and unlike every other screen I have had, it does not buffet. Buffeting gives me a headache and fatigue fast, and this fairing does not buffet. I think the buffeting is tamed by the gap between the bottom of the screen and the fairing (evident in your above pictures).

There's always something and with this fairing, it's a slight touch of the tank seam. I'm going to send an email to Wunderlich USA to see what they say. I may just try to add a washer somewhere but as you know, the fairing does not allow room for adjustment without possibly bending something.

We'll see.

Ferenec!! TANK TOUCHING PROBLEM SOLVED!

I decided to go out to the garage and really look at what I could do to fix the problem. I loosened the four fairing mounting screws to see which bolt affected the bottom most. That's when I realized that the headlight largely determined the distance at which the fairing sat from the bike. I moved the headlight out to its farthest position in the bracket, set the beam alignment and put the fairing back on. NO MORE TOUCHING.

Let me know if it works for you.

Slide the headlight forward in its bracket as this largely determines the distance the fairing sits from the motorcycle.


Remount the fairing and no more tank touching.

Mine touches on both sides and it is not just alight touch but actually there is a slight bend on the fairing at full steering.

Your solution is inspiring. I will find time during the weekend to give it a try and will post the result.

As fro Wunderlich, they are simply ignoring my emails. They react only if I call them. I'd have expected more from this brand.

Wunderlich USA has replied to me and they agree this is the solution. They should include it in the instructions. Let us know if it works for you.
