ews and rear bmw carrier.

Post by finsally »

Hi.strange thing happened other day with my.07 R1200R. I filled up and because the forecourt was covered in diesel i thought it to dangerous for my pillion i started the bike and drove outside
I switched off while my wife paid for fuel. When i tried to start the bike nothing
happened, then i noticed the EWS flashing. So i removed the keys then switched on the ignition and bike started no EWW flashing and bike has been fine ever since.
Plastic top plate
Also i have fitted the 49 litre top.box and have noticed 2 small.cracks on either side of the plastic top plate at the front next to seat.Dunno if the larger box.could have caused this any thoughts.
The box does seem very heavy is the carrier suitable for the 49 litre box

I dont know if the carrier is sufficient for the 49l box, what did you have loaded in it? Is is possible your pillion was leaning al little heavy against it? Over loaded top boxe's can crack support plates and even frames . I have first hand experience in this; I overloaded an E52 on a move from Mississippi to Maine, cracked the tail rear frame on my Triumph Trophy, I dont remember the exact size of the tail frame tubing, seems like it was 1" x 1/2". I Looked like the Clampetts moving to town the box was stuffed full, gear hanging off it. Sad part is I knew better, quick hit with the mig gun and the frame was as good as new.

Hi...had not loaded it with anything.Just took a test ride to make sure it was secure.
To be honest not sure when they appeared maybe when I had the 28 litre one on.
Loaded it with overnite bag when we took overnite trip to Scotland. Has not got any worse suppose you can buy a new plate, at a price.
I have taken the plate off to check the carrier and it seems o.k
