Only 58,000km from headlamp bulb!!

Post by qfman »

My 12R blew a headlamp bulb this week. In Australia the main beam is always switched on so 58,000km continuous use was not too bad. Pleasant surprise for me is that a spare bulb is ever-present in the form of the separate, identical high beam bulb.

Now to find a generic replacement so I can avoid the $110 BMW part....

Just about all the local auto parts stores carry the H-11 now. Most even carry a few different colors (standard, bright and burn peoples eyes out

qfman.....the low and the high beam are the same.?? The plastic surrounding the bulb must be well thought out. Good job for BMW. My dealer (both where bought and where serviced) adjust the headlight so when the bright is turned on the tree tops light up. Must be a mountain / German thing.

Harry... found an H11 at Walmart for $9.99. I would get a backup but I still get another 34k before it burns out...maybe.

Everyone knows not to touch the glass but I wanted to bring the idea to the present. I found out through experience.

$110 for a lamp????? Holy crap batman!

The headlight bulb on my GS lasted for a whopping 6K miles before burning out on a recent 2300 mile trip... apparently they are known for eating headlamps. I found a replacement bulb for $12 at an auto parts store in Talihena, OK.

Both are the same so one spare covers both. Easy to adjust, all you need is a wrench and a dark road.

You got ripped off. My K75 has the original bulb - 25 years, and 72,000 miles!

Of course the reflector is not what it used to be and I had to rebuilt the switch.

And the lens just sucks. I have never seen such a fragile piece in such a vulnerable place. My bike's (cracked) one now wears a shield.
