injector cleaner question
So I picked up bottle of BMW injector cleaner at my local dealer. After I payed I asked about the proper way to use it and he explained and after he was finished he said oh one more thing... Most people change their oil after running through a tank of this stuff because of all the carbon it dissolves gets into the oil. Now after 20 years of doing my own mechanic work I've never heard of this. It doesn't seem it would have a chance to even get on the crankcase rather just get blown out the exhaust. Any one else ever hear of this or practice this??

Re: injector cleaner question
possibly he was touting for business - assuming you'd buy the engine oil from him (since you already paid for the snake-oil
).
Re: injector cleaner question
Easy way to tell will be to take a look at the oil after using the tank of gas. If it's noticeably darker do a change. I don't remember that Seafoam recommends oil change after using Seafoam in a tank of gas.

I've never heard of that either. Me thinks he's trying to sell parts and service. I've run Sea Foam on a regular basis and have never found the need to do anything else. Matter of fact thanks for the reminder........just went and put some in the tank!

Will keep looking for info.
What caused your need for injector cleaner?

This is BS!!!
At least 1,000,000,000 miles using seafoam in many!!! vehicles' with no problems. (many oil samples analyzed).
Some people are anal!
:-)
Edit:
I have never used it in the oil, only fuel. If you use it in the oil and they recommend changing after a a few miles I would follow that recommendation.

Re: injector cleaner question
I use Seafoam as well and it does say you can use as an additive to your OIL as well and I believe that you have to change the oil after a very short time of it being used. I have never done this however.
I have used Techron and Starbrite as well and never heard of having to do an oil change after using them.

Re: injector cleaner question
i clean my injectors manually. just connect them to a battery to briefly open them and spray cleaner through them.
dont think ill ever put seafoam in my oil. Ive used it in fuel though.

Re: injector cleaner question
I put Chevron Techron cleaner in once a year and don't concern myself with it .

Re: injector cleaner question
Thanks for the responses. I agree Kirby total BS. I left the dealer thinking maybe I've been doing it wrong this whole time. Now I just believe he thought I was the usual gullible owner of high end machinery that does not typically do their own maintenance ( sorry if you feel offended ).
On a side note, now that I have run through the entire tank, The beemer brand stuff works as well as seafoam. Noticeable difference in idle smoothness and throttle response.
