How 'bout this?

Post by darthrider »

I think it would be a good idea if we could all show our first names either in our sig line in our posts or in our Profiles.

I "know" a lot of people on here I have no idea what their names are, or if they've ever said, I've forgotten. Old age is not for sissies!

There have been a couple of guys I never knew their names until they died. That's not good.

I just like to use first names when I can, it just seems more respectful and personal.

I just used "Darth" for a long time but was concerned people would think I was just some Star Wars geek or a Darkside Zombie who sits around posting in his underwear and a black helmet and doesn't even own a motorcycle, so I added "Dave" at the end. And now I know I am universally loved and admired (um, yeah, that's it...me & Lance).

Besides all that, when Biggums and Big Jugs post it always reminds me of an old girlfriend back in Amarillo who taught me to play a game called "Arms Up!"...a good education is a wonderful thing. You know, that might be a good thing to add to the punchlist of things to do for long-term winter storage of our bikes!

So, what do you think?

Duh... You have to guess mine.

I guess I just wasn't feeling creative the day I signed up but I always thought straitforward names made sense.

My name

Post by MIXR »

My name?

Mick - As in short for Michael (only my Mum calls me that!)

Also as in 'Mick's Roadster' which is 'Mick's R'

Further abbreviated to play on the alphabet where Mick's = MIX

Hence we end up with 'MIXR'

It's a user name I've had in various forms over the years and it made it easy for the R.

I usually sign off my PMs or 'serious' posts/responses with 'Mick'. I think there are more people doing that anyway.

Bad idea to use first names here. Too risky.

Latakia is a type of pipe tobacco I'm enthralled with, or is that addicted to? Whatever.

At the Western Bash in Torrey this year, I was introduced to all the attendees by their first names and r1150r.org "handles." Unfortunately, I am horrible with names and could only remember a few of them by their real names. And the next time I go I'll have the same problem. So I'll just stick with calling everyone by their "handle."

And no, beekstersocal, I don't mean THAT kind of "handle." Sicko. :smt096
