done deal, sold the R and purchased a 1200gs. i'm picking up the gs on wednesday and am really looking forward to it. The R has been such a wonderful bike, i'm hoping that the new GS will be more of a good thing for me. My R had 24,000 miles on it and was the best bike that i've ever owned. i typically decide that a new bike is a necessity after only a couple of years.
Reason that i chose to go with a GS:
wanted the new 1200 motor, drivetrain and didn't appreciate the ST or RT and got tired of waiting for the R to be introduced.
wanted a bike that would offer me some added options for adventure, but not compromise on-road performance.
i like the odd looks of the GS, suits me well.
i was able to get one with-out ABS, personal preference.
i received the Jesse bags for it this afternoon and will get them mounted this week. I'll quickly log some miles and will be headed for a business trip next week on it, 1300 miles or so. the stock seat is suspect, but Sargent doesn't have one available yet for this model, i'm on the list when they do release them though. The Sargent was great on the R.
out with the old, in with the new.

Jimbo,
Good on ya! We exchanged some email about this and I was wondering what finally transpired. Which color did you get, again? It was only Blue or Red for non ABS, non Servo when I got mine.
I too decided upon an aftermarket seat. I went with a Corbin because Sargent couldn't really say when I might get one from them and I kind of like harder rather than softer seats Plus, the Corbin is lower than the stock BMW seat and should be close to the low seat in height (I am only 5'7"). I should get the Corbin later this week or early next week. You can email me if you want a ride report on that.
You are gonna love the new bike, I guarantee it. Especially after the run in when you can ride it in the party zone. Yeeehaaa. Congrats.

Jimbo,
Please tell us all about it. I am thrilled with my Roadster and Doug's the same with his 1150GS. But we've got a buddy with a 12GS and he goes on and on about the engine, transmission, handling and so forth. I'm too short for a GS but can't help but be jealous. Good luck and get back with us. Sarah

thanks.
i got a blue one but there was a yellow and red available as well. Mine will have the spoke wheels, heated grips, and alarm(not my choice).
The Sargent seat is great for every situation, on the long haul it is terrific. i went from the standard seat on the R to the Sargent. I can only hope that when the Sargent comes out for the GS that it will be as nice.
i have been waiting impatiently for over a week to get the bike, it's like christmas eve for a 10 year old.
