This has been a fantastic place for people to come with questions about their Rock or Roadster. It's FULL OF insightful folk who can address virtually ANY question a newbie can possibly think to ask..... and they have. It has also been a rather low-key place for people to exchange ideas, seek an opinion and engage in friendly banter.
As more and more people made of this site their home, the inevitable expansion & occasional add-on has made for what R1150R.org is today. Believe it or not, those LEAST VOCAL are in the majority of folk who support and agree with the mission of the site. In life (and on this site), it seems always to be the most militant who scream, whine, and openly complain that THEY are not getting what THEY want.
Fact of the matter is..... just because there are those of us who have visited this site (virtually) daily since joining, it has NOT made R1150R.org any more "our" site than the day before we happened upon it. People's expectations, anxious or otherwise, can either be selfless or self-centered. There is NO community that will successfully work without keeping people in check. There is no community that will work if it is made up of people with ONLY their interests in mind. R1150R.org is a community.
Either the "BMW R1150R/T K1200R R1100R/T Message Board Forum" works for you, or it doesn't. AND it is an oversimplification to suggest that one, "Love it, or leave it"....... It has become what it is today, because people chose to stay and change it.
Bottom line, between the originator of this site, it's moderators, and members who have communicated (either off-site or on-site), a certain decorum for this site has been agreed upon.
Welcome to one of the friendliest, most informative, and enjoyable places to pull up a keyboard...... and banter 'bout Boxers and Beemers.

I'd suggest that the Playhouse is anything but low-key. Passion abounds there, which is what makes it both dangerous and exciting. Just like riding motorcycles, I'd wager. It has also been a rather low-key place for people to exchange ideas, seek an opinion and engage in friendly banter.
So, people make a difference. As more and more people made of this site their home, the inevitable expansion & occasional add-on has made for what R1150R.org is today.

One might infer that there are the checkers and the checkees. There is NO community that will successfully work without keeping people in check.
So, people don't matter.Either the "BMW R1150R/T K1200R R1100R/T Message Board Forum" works for you, or it doesn't. AND it is an oversimplification to suggest that one, "Love it, or leave it".

Yeah Arkline, I was having a bit of a problem understanding all that warm, fuzzy & smoothly worded, ummm..."stuff" too.
If anyone *really* wants to get confused go back and read this thread from the 1st post on page 1, THEN see if you think Pat's words really fit in the same thread...or even the same Internet.
But read fast, before Doctor Snip-Snip does his work...

Or whatever the hell your paper bag is called - You could use a little warm & fuzzy, I don't think you got enough love from mommy and daddy.

Dear GGGuest,
I'm one of those as Pat puts it "least vocal" members of this board but I must chime in on your little comment :
"And Mr. Community Checker doesn't even own a BMW."
"Mr. Community Checker" has been an invaluable member of this community regardless of what bike he is currently riding. His posts are always informative, entertaining and encouraging to newbies and experienced riders alike.
What have YOU contributed to this community?
And BTW - who are you?

Indeed - Pat rode a BMW R1150R for nearly 60k miles. More than anybody else I know on this board.

I kinda lost track of this thread the last few days.
And as far as your remark goes, GGGGuest..(CRAP! Everytime I try to say that now I stutter)...Pat is forever an honorary Roadster owner. As long as we have the photos of that beautiful black beast with the funny stealth tail bag, Pat will rest in our hearts as a REAL Roadster owner and rider.
I am so sorry my manic friend. I didn't realize your feelings were so tender. I am sure you realize that "spanking" could have been a lot more callous.I will accept a honorable retraction for your callous remark

Huh! Guest, you'll just have to learn. We may disagree with each other at times to the point of bending each others feelings a bit, but let one intentional stranger attack one of our own, and you'll have the whole lot of us come down on you!
Hmmm. Yep, this is still my favorite bar. 'cept I have to go get my own beer!

Hi Frank!FGanger wrote:Bob,
Great to see you are still around. Boy am I jealous, I so want to be away from here right now and off on the road. We still have 6 1/2 months before we check out of Illinois and are off to Florida.![]()
With all the stinking work we've had to do on my house, this past year has been my worst for bike riding. My overall average has been 20,000 (almost exactly) a year since I started riding in 1957. This year I only did about 10,000 miles. Next year I'll have to make it up by having a 30,000 mile year. Good lord! I just added it up, I'm at 960,000 miles. When I first started to ride the thought of putting on 1,000,000 miles seemed undoable. And now it's so close. You don't suppose 2,000,000 miles is possible, do you?![]()
By the way, the offer still holds for you and your wife, we have a room with your name on it. To be honest, my wife reminded me that we have other names on the room as well. I'm embarrassed to say that you may have to share the room with some of the New York City Rockettes.![]()

960,000 (s)miles - WOW!
Good luck with the move to Florida, your timing (weather wise) will be perfect. Thanks for the open invitation, and the same for you and your lovely wife here in Moss Beach (20 miles from San Francisco).
Cheers,
Bob

I've been quite surpised for quite a long time actually that the board has been allowed to be as free as it's been... ie, sexual talk and photos etc.
Now the law has been layed down 'again'....
Either watch your p's and q's and fall in line, or bail.
I bailed a long time ago and only visit to see if there's anything interesting going on... and there usually isn't.
The new members will keep coming, and it's no big deal to Doug if a bunch of us leave... as a matter of fact I imagine he welcomes the exit of many of us.
It's HIS site.... and he can make it reflect HIS image of what it ought to be... that's all he's saying, and what he wants.

In reply to "guest", I believe he was referring to me, not Pat. But he is right, I unfortunately no longer own my r1150r and this is common knowledge by now I'd expect. I did own a shiny blue r1150r for a couple years.taosports wrote:Dear GGGuest,

What have YOU contributed to this community?
And BTW - who are you?
So, perhaps my financial burdens (The main burden: putting my wife through full time medical school) should have caused the site to shut down then? Would that be a better solution? Is it somehow dishonorable for me to run the site and not actually own an R anymore? Unfortunately, not everyone is made of money.
Anyway, what does my not owning a bmw have to do with maintaining this site? To be honest, I think a lot of people in my situation would have bailed. It is a monetary and time burden for me and since I personally derive practically no value from the technical posts or the politcal/religious mumbo-jumbo, I have only the members who really love the site as a drive to maintain this place.
Sorry about the rant here, but I take offense to your (now erased) post, "ggguest."

Are you saying that "You've heard it all before"?
Re your 2nd post I can understand why having a bunch of "louts" running around on "your" board can be galling, especially when you don't see any particular personal value to the board any more. I know personally the owner of another forum and know how much heartache "abuse" of the board causes him.
But even with that fact, the board is here, and it's been opened up to us, the public. That means that while we might not have a "say" in the running of the board, we should be able to point out what we like and don't like. Then it's your choice to defend your position or alter something - hey, that's what happens when you open up a "service", you open yourself to comment.
I guess the only person who can decide what happens on R1150R.net is yourself, since you own it and run it. All we're really asking for is a bit of guidance in what we're doing wrong and a bit of openness when we transgress your rules so we KNOW we've done something wrong.
I for one hope to see R1150R.net flourish and grow because it's a great community with a huge amount of knowledge and it would be a shame to see that knowledge scattered. Tell us what you want from us and i'm pretty sure that we'll all cough up.

I don't get it. If you loathe this place so much why do you keep showing up...albeit in disguise?
Come on! Be like Lance, let us know who you are.
Just for the record, I like Lance, and admire his forthrightness...(is that a word?) But at the same time I understand perfectly Doug's rebuttal. ie. "Blah, blah, blah." This is like the dynamics of the "Lucy Show". Ricky and Lucy were always arguing about something.....and...well...I just think that's what makes this little "show" of ours so delightful sometimes.
G'day! I gotta bleed the brakes on my wife's minivan.

Maybe guest is the silent majority, or maybe not.
Guest drives people nuts if he has a differing point of view.
Guest can start a thread and nobody blasts him, as long as it doesn't piss people off.
Lobby the admin to disable Guest or GGGuest or whatever.
We all need to be nice to Guest. It could be a potential new member.

I thought he was a member of the vocal minority without the balls to identify him or herself?
Most of us have identified ourselves in some way by name. Many of us have meet and ridden together. Using anonymity to make derogatory comments is not to be respected or encouraged.
Heck even use some common name like . . Dave for instance.
