DISASTER!? What is bent?

Post by atl111 »

Hi all, Im new here but have had BMWs for a long time and sell them as well. I found one that had to be repo'd because the owner went AWAL and stoped making payments....later to find that he had wrecked on the bike and been in the hospital for 2 months. Contacted my insurance company and this is what I found on the bike in the impound....please take a look at the pics and tell me how to fix this....is it a control arm or an axle. I have not personally seen the bike yet, just some pictures sent via email. Thanks for any insight and help.

I would not touch it with a ten foot pole if they gave it to me - unless you want to take it all apart and sell what's good as used parts.

I'm no expert when it comes to maintenance and repairs.

But I think the real question is "what is salvageable and reusable".

The insurance company has not written this bike off?

Dude that bike is totaled.

Tank = $1300
oil cooler cover =$100
left hand controls = $300
right hand controls = $300
Handlebar = $170
Headlight assembly = $300
speedo/tach = $200
rear wheel = $500(no tire included)
forks = $500 ea
etc,
etc,
etc.

The prices are approximate, but it is only the beginning of the list. My guess is that there is at least $5000 in parts that need to be replaced. That does not include any labor.

The entire ------- motorcycle! :shock:

Seriously, if you really want to know most anybody would either need to see it in person or have pictures of much higher resolution and a lot more of 'em at a whole bunch of angles...

Personally, I would *RUN*, not walk, away from this motorcycle. No wrecked bike you didn't drop yourself, no matter how well ya' fix it, ever instills much confidence in you riding it.

Just my two cents... YMMV.

wreaked bike

Ditto the recommendations to leave this one alone! For everything you see bent, there is probably another something you don't see.

Phishing?

Post by camfarm »

Guys,

Let's think about this one...

A badly spelled note from someone who has had BMWs and sold a few but wants us to opine about damage.

Repo after 2 missed payments...but oh, he's in the hospital.

Whose insurance company is involved? His, the owner, the (dare I say) guy who stole or might steal this bike?

Alt111 does not ring true to me.

Never let bad spelling be the mesure of the valitity of anything. I miss spell all the time. Any way even if it's not completely true it's got a bit of a joke out of you.

I'm just amazed the bike seems to be able to stand up without any stand.

The bike actually looks okay...But you could only go in clockwise circles since it's always leaning. And the tank may hold a few litres less fuel.

A little duck tape here and there. It would almost look as good as mine then! :shock:

If you decide to go ahead with this bike I have a Gas tank with about 1/16 deep by 1 1/2 inc long crease in it that I will sell you for $150.00 plus shipping . The tank is in otherwise perfect condition . The crease is in the knee indent area You could cover the crease with a stick on knee pads.
