Choke handling

Post by Bjorn »

According to manual: full choke when starting up, running 100 - 200 meters with half choke, then choke should be fully closed.

During a cold morning in a rather humid climate in Oslo, Norway (32 - 40 F) engine stopped soon after I closed the choke.

How long should you run with choke under such conditions?

Bjorn, it's not really a choke. It's just a fast idle switch to keep the revs up until warm. You could do the same thing with your throttle but this just makes it easier and smoother.

To answer your question. Just let it stay on full for a while. It won't hurt it. When you come to a stop down the road, you'll notice it idling at about 1500RPMs. Then you can reach over and push it down. Idle should be at 1000 to 1100 RPMs.

Thanks boxer - I will keep it in mind when I take the bike out of the winter storage in April.

I have never used the full choke option the bike has never needed it to start even at 0C. As for when to push it off I always do it when on the roll rather than stoped then if I have done it too soon then I can compensate with the throtle. But this is about qaurter to half a mile.
