Hey everyone,
Being that it is winter here in Central NY I have plenty of time on my hands. While on my September trip to West Virginia I got caught in a two hour downpour. My Rukka jacket held up fine and my pants picked up a little water but I made it. I would really like to purchase some good quality rain gear that folds up nice and small to pack within the gear. I came across this stuff at our good friends at http://www.newenough.com. Let me know what you think

Anyone using Firstgear Rainman rain gear?

I have this set. It doesn't get much use because I normally wear an all-weather Aerostich, but sometimes when the skies open up hard and the rain continues for an extended period, the nominally waterproof Aerostich becomes inadequate. For such times, I stow the'stich and don the Rainman getup. It is more substantial than the Nelson-Rigg or Dryrider type of gear. - Lee

Rain Pants
I prefer bib type pants. I get leakage with waist length pants.
Rain gear
I have a plain First Gear hooded rain jacket which I consider the best piece of gear that I own. If other First Gear stuff is built as well, I'd be all for it.
This jacket is well made and engineered. Excellent zippers and velcro. It makes a great windbreaker as well. My experience with First Gear has been very, very good.

I've got both pieces. I love the fact that the pants have a zipper section so you can pull the pants on without taking off your boots (even while balancing against your bike, standing under an overpass), and the reinforced shin section so road crud won't wear the fabric out.
The jacket is great as well.
Actual experience in use: Wore the set on the ride to Shelbyville for the BMWRA Rally last Oct. Rode in about 6 hours of steady rain on the way TO the rally. The jacket and pants kept me dry.
My ONE issue isn't really a shortfall of the pants, but the result of my very long legs (34" inseam for my 5'9" height)... when I threw a leg over my bike, the pant hem snicked JUST above the top of my boot. Water filled my boots, but the rest of me was dry.
I bought a pair of gators for the ride home... rode in 2-3 hours of rain and was ALL dry.
