R1100RTP Idle problem

My 2001 R1100RTP has 30K miles on it, and I just bought it. Sometimes(not all the time, maybe 75 percent of the time), it will die at idle. I just had it serviced at the dealer, and the mechanic noticed it also. He suggested a new fuel filter, as that was the cheapest place to start. We did that, but it still is doing it. He mentioned different sensors, etc. but he said to ride it till it got worse, and maybe it would be easier to detect the problem. He raised the idle speed to 1100 rpm. but it still dies periodically. It starts right back up, but definitely an inconvenience if not a danger. Have any of you out there gone through this same problem? Thanks for any help
