new here - looking for info on purchase

Post by sojourner »

Hello all. New here. I've test ridden the RT and R bikes before. Now I am looking for an r1150r ABS or possibly a rockster ABS. Looking for recent used, like in 04 or 05 or 06 or new. Definitely want ABS.

Checked two semi-local dealers and neither had r1150r's in stock. One was able to get a rockster. Checked cycletrader and did not see any in my area.

So, is BMW not putting out new r bikes this year because of the impending r1200r release? How hard is it to find a recent r1150r ABS to purchase (I am in PA right along the NJ border)

Thanks.

I did not see any rules for an introductory post, so pls. forgive me if this first post is not proper. Me, ride a cruiser and want to get a bmw. MSF instructor.

Mods - feel free to move if it is not in proper forum.

Thx.

Welcome. Where in PA do you live? I live in NJ, about 25 miles from the Water Gap area.

Consider buying used. These bikes, unfortunately, do not hold their values that well, and there are some good used deals. Check the Buy/Sell forum here, and also the IBMWR market place.

Welcome sojourner;

Last December, I bought an '04 Roadster off the cycle trader.com . It was from a private individual with low (4000) miles on it. I had it shipped from Salt Lake which was only 500.
It was perfect conditon and is still under warrenty for two more years.
We drew up a standard sales agreement and faxed back and forth. The previous owner sent all the service records etc. It was a smooth and very possitive transaction.

I know there are good bikes out there. It might be worth a flight out to buy and ride home from somewhere or consider the shipping....

I have not regretted my purchase for a moment.

You will find helpful people on this site who share your passion.
Welcome! :)

I'm just north of easton.

I checked the buy/sell and in communications w/ the gentleman selling the rockster.

What is the IBMWR marketplace?

Thanks!

2004 R1150R Copper and Black Rockster Non-ABS.
Recently changed all fluids, replaced rear brake pads, replaced spark plugs, washed K&N air filter, adjusted valves and sync’d the throttle bodies. Comes with heated grips, BMW side bags, BMW lockable quick release soft trunk (both keyed with ignition), clear BMW touring windshield (new) and On Guard lock. Could use tires but ready to ride across the country now. Mechanically sound. Everything works. Selling because I went to a faired airhead. The tank has minor scratches by keys when the gas filler door was opened. Always garaged. Mileage is around 27,000 miles because it is a working bike. $7,200 OBO.

Thanks for the replies.

I may go the ship it back route.

The ads were for non-ABS. Not to start any disagreements or anything, but I definitely want an ABS version.

Again, thanks.

It was THE most important feature for me also.
I wathched some video footage at a motorcycle show that showed the same BMW bike with and without ABS at high speed stopping. The ABS made the difference between stopping and going down.

The video mqade a believer out of me...now I hope I don't ever have to rely on it...but I know its there!

Just some advice my father in law gave me.....
"It is always easier to buy than to sell....so buy right."

He also said; 'If your not embarassed by your offer it isn't low enough....'

I take that one with a grain of salt.

I just used them as examples of what you can find in IBMWR Marketplace. I have ABS myself.

What Bob said about IBMWR! I have sold two bikes on there myself. One to a guy 30 miles away that saw it on IBMWR instead of our local want ad paper.

You can also try to get a copy of the BMW Owners news. There are some in there also.

It's a great bike, you won't regret it.

2004 R1150RA may be for sale

Post by PHALEXAN »

My black 2004 R1150R may be for sale. I can't justify owning two bikes just now and have been thininking I might sell this one. If I get to riding it this spring though I probably will change my mind!

It currently has 2,800 miles on it and is without any scratches, dents or chips. It is stored in a dry garage and covered most of the time. It has ABS and heated grips and I have added BMW system cases, a passenger backrest, a soft top case, the BMW "sport" windshield, cylinder head protectors, Motolights, PIAA driving ights, a bar riser, and BMW auxiliary brake and running lights to the back. If I sell it I will include the BMW dust cover, the nice BMW gel-cell battery charger and a shop manual.

The bike was purchased new in November 2004 so the warranty runs until November 2007. The 600 mile service was performed by the dealer last April and I changed the oil and filter before storing the bike last fall.

Its as nice a specimen of the breed as you could find and I'd be looking for $8,900. I live in the Indianapolis area.

Welcome to our terrific web site Sojourner! Congrats on your excellent taste in motorcycles! :D

I grew up in the Danielsville area right near Blue Mountain Ski Resort (live south of Dover, DE now). Anyway, I'm up there all the time to ride the great roads (of which we have almost none in Delaware) with my brother. He rides a Triumph Speedmaster and owns The Terrace Restaurant in Walnutport. Maybe you can join us for some riding this season?

I take it you've checked Hermy's? Honestly, a used one makes huge sense. The only reason I didn't seek a used one when I purchased was because there just were none available in 2002. I paid $9700 for my '02 non-ABS Roadster at Main Line BMW in Devon. I definately believe I got my money's worth! It's just a terrific all-around motorcycle. I added BMW's touring windshield and system cases, (came stock with heated grips) making it great for the type of sport touring I enjoy. I plan to add a set of Ohlins shocks this month so that it will handle the twisty stuff even better than it does now. I also love how easy it is to adjust the valves, etc. myself since the nearest dealer is 80 miles away. I moved up to this motorcycle from my 1984 Honda 1000 Interceptor (which I still own but don't ride) and must say that I absolutely love the power characteristics of the boxer motor, the unique BMW suspension handling, the smoothness of the shaft drive.

Irv Seaver BMW in Orange, California have a couple of used Rocksters for sales plus probably a couple of R115Rs as well. The same for Victory BMW in Chandler, Arizona.

There's no laws that say you can't buy from out-of-state.
Cogito Ergo Vroom - I think therefore I ride.
