My GPS mounting solution

Post by domekrome »

I use my Garmin 2610 on longer trips, and as of this spring I mount it with 2 different kits:

a) swivelling handlebar mounting kit from BMW, originally intended for the Navigator
b) Touratech aluminimum clamping bracket grafted onto 'a'

since the navigator is basically a 2610, could you use the regular garmin bike kit mount instead of the touratech to attach to the bmw handlebar mount? also though i wonder if the bmw mount would work for me since i have barback already installed....

I would imagine that you could use the Garmin bike kit, I didn't because it did not look like it would be that secure. I ride on a lot of rough, poorly maintained roads, not fire roads - just poorly maintained.

The BMW kit uses bolts that are the same length as the stock ones, just different heads, so I couldn't say if it would work with barbacks.

sounds like it migh not, since the barback replace the stock bolts with longer ones. you would probably need longer ones with the different heads.

i have the garmin mount and it is pretty secure( for plastic of course!). it even has a little torx key that locks it in place that you can carry on your keychain... plus it comes with the power cable and only costs about 10$ more than just the cable. worth a look IMO.
