Mirrors

Post by NorseMan9 »

I find that being rather tall in the saddle my elbows tend to block part of the view in my mirrors. I think the solution can be fixed if I can raise the mirrors vertically but the mirror mounts only swivel in a horizontal plane.

Is there an aftermarket mirror or mirror mount that sits either higher or wider so I have full view?

Thanks

The mirrors off the K bike are wider, but not taller. They are more rectangular, compared to the round ones that are stock. Many of us prefer the look of these. I have them on my bike, and I do believe they give me slightly better visibility.

What Bob said. I have the K bike mirrors on mine also. Did it for the look but discovered it improved the field of view to the rear. Only slight modification to the left one required for the idle advance.

Here's mine:

Like the look of those mirrors. Are they standard on all K series bikes? AND do you just have to grind some of the mirror mount away to clear the idle advance lever?

Yes, to your second question. Not sure, in answer to the first.

I used a Dremel to carefully grind away enough for the fast idle lever to move up.

Here is a different perspective on the mirrors

I use the mirrors from the C BMW. They are still round, but a little larger and chrome.

Hi Kristi, those chrome ones on your bike look great. Not sure how they's stand up to our lousy weather here tho. There was a 3 year old rockster in the car park today and it looked tatty as hell. Corrosion everywhere, rusty brakes, a real mess. Couldn't believe it was the same age as mine. Better go wash it now I think...

I believe (not 100% sure because I bought mine used a few years ago) that the mirrors are from the K1200RS. Go here
http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/ ... spid=47830
scroll down to the diagram for mirror, which is towards the bottom, near the painted parts

I think you are looking for:

No Part Number Description Qty Each
01 51167653773 left rear view mirror BUY 1 $59.00
01 51167653774 right rear view mirror BUY 1 $59.00
02 51162309607 wave washer (D=8,4) BUY 2 $0.75
03 51162328287 nut (INBUSMUTTER M8) BUY 2 $8.00

I also have the K mirrors on my R1150R. I like them. Better view and better looks. They are from '02 and later K1200RS. I did not modify/grind the base of the mirrors. The fast idle lever comes up to the first click and that is all I need. The lever would not come all the way up against the spring load.

Just installed the K12RS mirrors. Great addition to the bike...looks good and better visibility! Thanks to whoever provided the part numbers in a separate post!

The longer I have this bike the more I like it!!!

Hi all...I just recieved the used k1200rs mirrors I bought on ebay, but the left mirror is missing it's plastic "collar". Does anyone happen to know what the part number for that is? Or am I going to have to buy a whole new one... :(
check out the ebay pic for more clues...

they are from an 01 or newer k1200rs, the older models had the mickey mouse mirrors.

The piece you are missing is not a separate part number. I would call beemerboneyard.com and see if they have one.

Just changed mine out last week for K1200RS mirrors - was suprised when the dealer actually had them on hand. He said everyone is always wanting them. Fifteen minutes with a dremel on the left side and you're done. MUCH better than the stock in both look and field of view. Also you can use the same nuts that come off your stock mirrors for them. Be safe.
