rockster windscreen

Just put money down on a 80th edition Rockster. Love the ride. Will pick up in a couple of days. Previously I've ridden a DAKAR. I want to put something up front to block some of the wind. Don't like BMW's large "touring" screen. I've been looking at a smaller "laminar lip" from A&S cycles. Any suggestions/comments? Thanks...

I would look at the Wunderlich screens from Santa Cruz County BMW. They are in my opinion the best looking and from what I have heard from people on this board, perform well.

I have the BMW screen which works great, I just don't like now it looks too.

i have the cafe shield for my rock and it is just enough to take the wind off my chest, but still leaves some good air. and you can tuck behind it if necessary. plus at 170.00 or so it is reasonably priced...check ebay, he usually sells them there a touch cheaper.

I have just had a Wunderlich Trimm installed. Neat, keeps with the style of the bike and allows my head to remain with me at 100mph+

Fozzie, I checked out that "smumug" gallery. I liked that Cee Bailey Screen modified for the Rockster. Can I contact/find more info. re: that screen from that gallery website? I couldn't find any access to the person who submitted the photo..

If you do a site search on ztechnik, a whole bunch of stuff will come up as this has been discussed before. I have attached a response I sent to an earlier question about the screen, assuming it was the Ztechnik screen you were after. Here is my earlier post:

'The screen in question is made in the US by National Cycle, who make (I understand) BMW OEM screens such as the sport and high screens for the R1150R. It is marketed by Z-Technik, at the following website:

The easiest way to navigate Z-Technik's rather cryptic website is to search for product by model. Or, if this link works, follow it straight to the Rockster page:

There is more stuff that would fit the Rockster on the R1150R page of the Z-Technik site as well. Not all of the products come up on the Rockster page.

Interestingly, the screen is sold in the US through the dealer network, so US residents can't buy from Z-Technik direct. Because the screen is not is not a BMW part here in Oz, I could order direct, as could other non-US dwellers (or aliens!).

I ordered my screen direct from Z-Technik with no problems; they were great. They were also cheaper than buying from a BMW dealer in the US (at least for non-US customers - see previous paragraph).

I have the screen fitted to my 05 Rockster. It is great quality: built to OEM standards ie lexan screen and stainless steel mounts. The screen can be removed in moments, and the mounts can stay in place. They don't look too bad.

I have found the screen good but not perfect; wind protection on any naked bike is an issue. The screen protects your upper body well from the wind, but channels more air over your helmet, causing some additional wind noise.

I have removed the screen for summer in Oz, because it is much cooler, and also quieter, without it. I will reinstall it for the cooler months.'

Got the Wunderlich Trimm/Sport screen installed on my Rockster and I've taken it a few hundred miles down a windy interstate. Even at 115mph it keeps the wind directed helmet and up (I'm 6'2") and could probably do even better with more adjustment. Probably not the best screen for long-distance touring, but I think the best compromise for the Rockster ... looks like it belongs (sharp in my opinion) and keeps you from parachuting, even at the Rockster's highest speeds. I highly recommend!

How much screen do you want?

I've made my own twice now, from old helmet visors and they've worked very well, while not interfering with either the looks of the bike (which imho virtually every aftermarket screen wrecks) nor the "sensation of speed" which is something that I like to have (helps me keep my licence.

Do you have any pictures you could post? I'm also interested in a screen but definitely don't want anything big. Something very small just to relieve the wind on highway jaunts would be ideal.

Just came back from a 4000 mile tour of the western states, with my BMW windshield installed for the trip, (Same as the Z-tech?)...and it worked fine...except for the extra noise and buffetting you don't get with the clean air of 'no screen'...I'm going back to no-screen for the rest of the summer...as the clean air is more bearable than the extra noise and buffetting around the head. I ride with a full suit, so exposure and 'parachuting' are no problem, and up to 80 miles per hour, I find no real air blast problem. (Just have to clean the shoulders of my suit mare often....)

PS...all of you from the Pacific Northwest, California, Nevada, Idaho, and Montana...NICE ROADS!!!!

Go for it - I reckon the bike is much better without a screen............surely if we wanted a bike with a screen we would have bought an RT, an ST, an S, an RS maybe even a GS but definatley not a Rockster or a R

Personaly I always leave things standard - so many people talk about noise and buffeting with screes and fairings - I say go naked!

jon. Couldn't agree more. Today, my bike was booked in to have the rear shocker replaced at a dealer seventy miles away. (All dual carriageway). I rode up at 85 - 90mph and it was simply blissful, even though I normally avoid motorway. I was honestly thinking how good it was and how much people are missing who have never ridden a bike. The dealer let me have an R850R for the day. (Daggnabit! I was hoping for a K1200R!!) The 850 had a small screen and I could not believe the amount of buffeting and wind pressure on the ride back home down the motorway. It just was not fun. BUT. Each to their own.

A standard Rockster rings all my bells.

After a few evening rides without the window, I'm now planning a 1500km 3 day trip without it....I'm starting to think it's the only way to fly!

And no buffetting, combined with the new sound of my 'can-less' exhaust...and the original raw look of the naked bike..I'm psyched!!

Normally I'd agree - but on a daily 112 mile round trip commute the constant wind pressure gets tiring - hence my flyscreen.

Hi guys, I,m new on this site and from South Africa. The Rockster is my 4th BMW and I must say I like what I see on this site. Riceburner, I think you idea with the visors are great seeing that when we buy aftermarket thing in SA it cost a pretty penny. Can you post pictures of the brackets you use?

The visor is stuck on with 3M industrial strength pads (I had a source a while back) and it's curvature is such that it actually grips the eyebrow as well, which helps. (it's an Arai visor btw). (I should have used a dark one....
