Highest mileage check...r1150r or rocksters

Post by elmosisu »

I know that there are big miles on other beemers ( including our r1100r brothers), but I'm curious to see what kind of miles are on the newer versions......2002 and newer, if i'm not mistaken, with the 1150 motor.

any big mile Roadster, or Rockster owners out there?

I've only got 17500 in 2.5 years............ :?

bonus question.......any major "break-downs" during your high mileage ownership?

I've got 48,000 on my '03 but Bill Haycock put over 80,000 on his '02 before he sold it last month. Our BMWMOGA club president's son has the bike now and continues to log miles.

No big problems on mine. Had to clean the starter and the oil pressure switch went bad, and it's due some throttle cables. They're getting kind of stiff.

My biggest gripe is the tires. They wear out too fast.

I have just over 37000 miles on my '04. No major problems, but a couple minor things: Battery after the first year, final drive oil seal (only a leaking seal, but was replaced under warrenty), and a defective hall sensor - when the bike was new!

I have just over 20,000 on my 03. Replaced one heated grip first yr and rear seal just before warranty ran out. Probably could have just left that alone. Pulled the starter last weekend and cleaned it. New battery a month ago and that's about it. And like Boxer says -- the tires wear out too fast! On my second front (just yesterday) and will change the rear next weekend (4th)

My '02 (delivered Nov '02) had 26K when I traded it in 3 weeks ago for the ST. No major problems. Heated grip went bad and replaced under warranty;
as was the rear drive seal. The battery lasted until Feb of this year.

Mine is an `02 model with 50,555 miles. It has had it's current WesCo maintenance free battery since the first year. New tires every 10K miles. Failures: It burned out a license plate illumination bulb. That's it. No leaks. Always starts in any weather.

It's a keeper.

I think that whaycock will have(or had) the highest mile roadster, and he is probably close on the Rockster list too.

I have 11,300 mi on my 04 R, and had 17,659 on my now deceased 03 R. Close to 29k combined.

Only problem was a leaky rear end seal. I would love to get 10k out of a set of tires.

I have 46,000 miles on my 04 R1150R and had a rear brake pad come apart and ruin the disc and am currently having a rear main seal replaced. It is 3 years old this month so I'm having the dealer put a new battery, fuel filter, air filter, and alternator belt on. I have a F650 as a loaner and it is a fun bike.

36k miles on my '02 Roadster I acquired in June of that year. Haven't been riding as much as I'd like this year, but I'm about to log 4k miles on the R in the next 3 weeks to make up for some of this downtime.

I've put 70,000km on my '02 since new. Commuting and weekend blasting mainly. Single spark that never surged but it did leak fuel everywhere once due to those sub-standard clamps. Still on the original battery. Took the muffler off a couple of years back and find it now revs to the redline. Getting 10000km out of a Z6 rear and 16000km out of a Z6 front.

No major reliability issues.

Have ridden the R1200GS and ST but am in no hurry to change over - they're just not that much better!!

I DID have 42K on an '04 until the bike was written off in January.

Currently on an 04 with 1800-ish (does this qualify as the LOWEST??) Mind you - I bought it a roughly a week ago and it had 1291 on it then... ;)

37,000 kms on my 02 beak, I remember the day I got her with only 2 kms on the odo back then (sniff). She's taken me around the whole Philippines already, with hardly any complaints. Except for some fuel leaks caused by a cracked quick disconnect coupling, and those crappy BMW crimp clamps, which have all since been replaced with BMW worm clamps. Still on the original battery, on its second set of rear pads, and third set of tires. Looking forward to many more adventures!

Milage

45,000 miles on my 03. Don't expect to put as many miles on it this year as in years past. :( My new job is not as suited to using it to commute, I am calling on customers more rather than sitting in an office. It is a great ride.

53,640 on my 04 Roadster.
Only problem other than normal wear items was I had to replace the spark plug boots (which are inline coils).
The only wear items other than tires has been brake shoes front and back, rear pivot bearings and battery.
