Keeping Skills Sharp
What is the minimum amount of riding necessary to keep your skills sharp. Should it be based on frequency or time.
Yer wanted by the police and my wife thinks your dead.
As in anything, the more you do it the better you will get. And I might add, we learn in quantum leaps when we make mistakes.
Take for instance, the skill of creating surveys. If we only do it once we probably will screw it up somehow, but if we make one every day, after a while the ones we make will be concise, complete, necessary, and above all entertaining.

riding frequency
For me it's not the amount of riding I do but the type. I gain more out of one trip to the mountains than I do from weeks worth of local riding.

Skills
Perhaps a different way of looking at the question of "How much practice?" is personal self testing. For example, Can you do a competent "U" turn on a narrow 2 lane road without touching feet to deck? Can you do a figure 8, stop on the crosswalk line, or swerve to avoid that leaf on the road whenever you choose? Check to see if you are looking and planning far enough ahead to not need drastic manuvers to compensate. By all means ride as much as you can, but learn to honestly evaluate yourself and your skills. When you find deficencies work to improve them. Without that feedback you won't benefit from your efforts.
It never feels like commuting to work, till I get there...BUT at least I start every day with a ride and a huge smile on my face and each day ends the same way. Can't ask for any more than that!riceburner wrote:Remember, it's not commuting to work..... it's sneaking a bike ride into every day, twice!
