Hi Michael,
Thanks for the photo. I can get it to mount like that but not to grip the pipe. Are you using another clamp to grip the tailpipe as well or have you just caught enough of it to keep it on there? Am using mine the original way round till I get another clamp organised.
My pipe is made from a piece of chrome pipe I found at work, it's a section of industrial vacuum cleaner fitting...the cleaner pipe is a little shorter than it was this morning...impatience. Now my original sewing machine sounding motor is exhausting thru a vacuum cleaner pipe but it sounds meaner!
The original clamp is actually on the bend of the pipe so it is able to grip without a problem. If you want to clamp it further up the exhaust tip, you'll need spacers to fill in the gap. Here's a view of the clamp from above...note how it is on the bend of the pipe :
The chrome exhaust tip was purchased at an auto parts store. It's a slip on type 2" in diameter. It slips over the existing 1 3/4" pipe and comes with two small set screws to keep it from slipping off.
Hey tao good job!! Some time back looking at DJ's photos I was stunned to see no muffler on his bike. I loved the look. Other people asked him about it and he said no problems. Took me about 6 months to take a chance and finally do it. But toner, tao & dcameron take one look at my bike on our Saturday ride and they can’t get home fast enough to take the pipe off. I wish I could take credit for the original idea of taking off the muffler but as far as I know DJ is the original. Thanks DJ!!
that's a great look and i bet the sound is awsome, I will have to do mine this wekend. I have been wanting to do this since DJ did it, but have never go around to it but the time is now.
Heck, I think everybodys gonna do it now Well I jumped on the Maverics bandwagon, I certanly can do this one too. It will make it nice to have a full size bag on the left side.
Thanks all for giving me the idea and insparation
I DID IT!! Yes, I too joined the bandwagon!! It must be a BAY AREA thing.... BOY does it sound Beefy!! I went to the store and bougt a tip but I purchases 1 that was way too big so I'll have to go back tomorrow and exchange it! Does anyone know if this is street legal
Thanks to all who posted picture that really encouraged me to do it!!
Um has anyone dyno'ed their bike with the can off? I am now doing 1st gear wheelies when i rapidly apply the throttle....... this wasn't happening before.....I am liking this
You think chicks dig guys who look like road-grimed astronauts and have interesting x-rays?
Does the remaining pipe accept a 1 3/4 in. diameter tip after can removal? Will the bike run leaner, in terms of fuel ratio? (Yes, I know it will be leaner in terms of porkiness.)
I was thinking of removing can and opening cat and removing catalyst element. Then I could richen the fuel mixture using Techlusion or something?
