Bleeding ABS Brakes

The Clymer Manual says that bleeding ABS brakes MUST be performed at the dealership as it is IMPOSSIBLE to remove all the air from the system without the BMW power brake bleeding tool. Yay or nay, people?

Can this be done, as teh R1100 docs suggest, with a Mityvac and great care?

Hogwash!

You will find the complete bleed instructions here:

The only difficulty is that you should make a couple of tools: one is a brake pad spacer, and the other is a funnel. The pad spacer will ensure that the tiny reservoirs in the servos are filled to the right level. The funnel is used to ensure that those same tiny reservoirs do not empty and suck air as you perform the bleed. Here are the details on how to make your tools:

Now, the preceding explanation may be more that you need. Steptoe, the English BMW mechanic that regularly posts on UKGS'er.com, uses a syringe and does not bother with complications. You can look here:
http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71524. However, let me warn you that Steptoe is a professional and that what he can do with a left hand is not necessarily what you or I should try at home.
