I don't think global warming has hit the UK enough to warant a mesh suit

I think I'll get myself some HoodJeans ([url] http://www.hoodjeans.co.uk) which are fabric but kevlar lined, and just leave the zip on the jacket undone a bit.

The concept of riding in some of the temperatures that you do is rather daunting. Pridictable dry weather would be nice sometimes though :D

I wear Savanna 2 jacket, Draggin jeans, and carry my Camel back to keep hydrated. Also, GS gloves.
In saying all that, I wont ride in real hot weather. No need to punish me and the bike. :)

HotWx

Rode 6000 miles in summer, U.S. heat: F 90's days and F 50's to 70's nights (depending on elevations mostly).

Biggest problem was not the heat....plenty of water and frequent (60 miles +/-) stops to refresh and rehydrate.

Biggest problem was morning chills. Never seemed to warm up fast enough.

Gear was full black leather perforated Vanson's top and bottom with microfiber underneath. Layers of fleece, vest, head wrap, etc for morning transitions.

Most heat related efforts consist of pre-conditioning, lots of water, lots of layers and frequent freshup stops.

Gear matters, but not like the other stuff.

In extreme heat---air temperatures over a hundred degrees, I use a well soaked cool vest over a light tee-shirt, under a Savanah II jacket with all vents open. Jeans, boots, GS gloves and white color "shorty" helmet. I carry several bottles of water. I also carry a "mist sprayer" (Under $10.00 at WalMart) to use when I stop for a rest.

Made in Canada Cool Vest (Under 40.00 USD) remains wet for well over an hour in Arizona's dry heat.

I have handled 114 degree temperature thru Phoenix on a GL1800 in (thank goodness) light traffic.

Just removed the liner from my Triumph stealth jacket and opened all the vent zips.
Ridden in up to 33C or so i nthe past 2 weeks and only actually overheated off the bike.
Helmet is a silver BMW system and that is OK with the vents open and visor opened a little bit.
Gloves are BMW ProRace and cool fingers can be got by opening a gap between them to let air go through the little holes.

As for the bottom half, well it just gets a bit sticky.
Tarmac is tougher than skin as an old biker told me. 8)

It was 107 here in Dallas yesterday and I was riding around suffering, and I noticed the strangest thing. While I was moving the air inside my helmet with the visor down was cooler than then air coming into it with it open or cracked. But when at a stand still it was the other way around.
I thought that was wiered but I bet somone smarter than me here would know why.

I've noticed the same thing. I just figured it was because my body temp is cooler than the outside temp that is trying to get inside. But I'm not smart - so someone else will have to answer this question.

Even Though You Are From TEXas

Post by MikeCam »

Well, I'll be. Even though you are from TEXas, you are both right. Intuitive or counter-intuitive? But as the old farmer answered when asked by the city slicker reporter if he believed in baptism by immersion:

"Believe in it? Boy, I've seen it done!"

Mesh

Post by munchmeister »

I'm think BMW Venting Machine mesh. Pricey but high quality, great venting, and well armored. http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?t=109
