UK - National Rally 2006 - did you ride?

Post by aghogg »

Did any of the other UK members here do the BMF National Rally this weekend?

Myself and 2 other guys from our club entered for the Special Gold award.

For those who don't know, the NR is a 'scatter' rally. There is a matrix of checkpoints spread around England, and you plan a route that gives the correct number of (rounded) miles and checkpoints for the award you're aiming for.

Starting at 2pm Saturday, we left the Newbury checkpoint and subsequently covered around 700 miles and 24 checkpoints in total before 9am Sunday morning. And it was *very* hot, well certainly for the UK it was :)

I have to admit there were a lot of Beemers on the Rally, but I didn't spot any other Roadsters - they were mostly older bikes like R80s and suchlike, with a few of the larger tourers thrown in.

Still, I don't mind. The Roadster behaved beautifully, especially on our penultimate dash from Worcester to Stratford-upon-Avon where we absolutely tore down the roads to get there before the checkpoint closed. I sincerely hope the red sportsbike that tailed me for several miles without passing (despite waving my leg to motion him through) wasn't one of our county's new 'stealth' unmarked police bikes...
