Nice to get back on the 'Rockster', though.....

I took my 'Rockster' for its 6000 mile service today (at Jefferies of Shipley). I was given an R1200ST for the day. Whoohooa! As I set off, I was wondering what 110bhp would feel like after the 85 or so of the Rock; how sanitized would it be with its balance-shaft engine. The bottom line was that I really liked it. At low revs the engine didn't feel much different to mine, but when I had the opportunity to overtake five cars, the extra power and the smoothness between 6 and 8 thousand really showed. It was intoxicating! (I realise that the 110bhp of the ST is far short of the K1200S, but it was 20 odd horse power more than I had ever sampled in a bike). On a dry section of road (off road, on an airfield, of course....!!), it flew up to 130 (mph) - faster than sensible me has ever been on a bike.

I really enjoyed the ST. It did everything to a high standard and I am sure had limits which I would never reach as a rider. When I took it back to collect the Rock, I wondered, as I parked it at Jefferies, how mine would feel afterwards.

The only difference I found was that I suddenly had a huge inane grin back on my face which didn't lessen until I reached home. Any bike which does that is special in my book.

PS. I thought that the seat of the ST is worse than the 'Rock'. Perhaps I am getting used to the Rock and the ST simply affects different parts of my anatomy. Of more concern (and the Doctor from another thread can advise here) a very important part of my anatomy was going to sleep, so some artery or other was being pressured.

Law of diminishing returns?

When I used to autocross, I remember overhearing this bit of advice: never bring a Corvette to an autocross hosted by the MG club.

I love the tight twisties and can't imagine that additional power will help me dance through those curves any faster. I guess I prefer a rollercoaster over the 20+ story freefall at the amusement park.

I get the same when I get back on my Rockster after a ride on virtually anything.

The seats on BMWs are getting worse I think.

I own faster and better handled bikes than the Rock, but the Rock is what makes me feel all tingly inside. Damn if I know why.
