Nolan n102

Looking to replace my helmet and saw a Nolan n102 in local shop today and like the look and feel of it.
Does anyone here use one, and if so is it a quiet lid.
My current helmet is a Caberg Justissimo and it is noisy at low speeds and painfully so at cruising speed 70 - 80 mph.
The Caberg is also useless in the rain which we get a lot of here in Scotland.
Can anyone recommend a quiet flip front that will let me see where I am going in the wet.
Any help much appreciated.

I had the BMW System 5, and loved it. As quiet, or quieter than my Shoei RF-1000.

I have both BMW helmets..the full face Sport Integral (known for being very quiet)..and the new System 5 flip....I think the flip is quieter.

I just purchased a Nolan N102. It's more quiet than my $100, JC Whitney helmet, but since it's modular, there is still wind noise. I don't mind it because I usually wear earplugs.

Very noisy if you try to ride with the external sun-visor up!

I can say that it's very stable at speed, the shape of the helmet seems to disipate some buffeting.

I haven't had it in the rain yet, because it's still snow season here in Illinois - USA! But, I have heard that a light coat of carnouba wax on the faceshield acts like rain-x. I'll be trying that this season as I have several rain or shine rides planned.

I've been using mine for 4 years now. Seems noisy to me, but I don't have a comparison. My complaint with Nolan is far more sinister than mere nois levels. Early on my chin bar would not release properly and I had to send it back for repair. When I spoke with them on the phone they assured me it was impossible to just replace the chin bar. It would have to be repaired. I took it off and sent it in. After getting it back, the chin bar released quite nicely. However the silver paint began to flake off. After about three months it was flaking all over it. Especially at edges. I esasily scraped the rest off with my fingernail. It turns out, it is a black chin bar that they, apparently, quickly painted silver and returned.
My future helmets will not be Nolans.

Do you have a N102? I thought the 102 was a fairly new model.

I like the Schuberth C2, quiet and does not leak in the rain. With earplugs in, very quiet. Check out this site

I have the Nolan 102 and everything has worked fine for me with it. It does not seem to let in much more noise then my full face Shoei. I guess it's all relative really. I wear earplugs or earphones, so the noise does not bother me. I use the Nolan in the summer and the Shoei in the cooler months. The flip face is essential for summer riding where I live. My complaint against the Shoei is that for $350 I would have thought a quick release would have been standard like it is on the Nolan. I added one to it, but it still is not as easy to operate as the Nolan quick release. The Shoei does fit better though. Just this one model - none of the more expensive ones do.

I have the BMW System 5 to replace a Caberg Justissimo. Agree about the Caberg being useless in the rain but the visor on the Sys5 does allow a small amount of water to run down the inside as well. I believe that the V shape in the top edge of the visor is a bit of designer stupidity, it just causes water to collect there. It's waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the Caberg though.

If you go this route you will need the pinlock visor to combat misting.

Riding at highish speed (~indicated 80mph) in heavy rain with the chin vent open will cause water to blow up onto the inside of the visor so you need to close the vent as you come out of town.

I also ride with earplugs but the Sys5 is quieter than the Justissimo.

That new Shoei MultiTec, which replaces the Synchrotec, looks good to me. I have heard lots of good reports about the Synchrotec and the Multitec is supposed to be better and lighter.

Mad1150-No on the N102. You are correct. Mine is the N100E. I bought it 4 years ago.

I have the N102, and had the N100(also have a BMW System 2). The N102 is more stable and quiet, but there is some wind noise. I think that the wind noise is a combination of the helmet, and the BMW Sport shield. When I stand up or lean to the side the noise is reduced greatly.

I would buy the N102 again, and I may consider it over the BMW System 5 depending upon price. I paid less than $300 for the Nolan last year and have no idea what the BMW costs.

I had a Nolan N100 for four years and had no problems.
Last year I got an N102 and it is much better than the N100.
After using Nolan N102 for a year I had problems with left side lock.
I think that Nolan has a 4 or 5 year warranty.
I called the "Helmet Shop" and they gave me the 800 number to call.
I do not remember the name of the company. They replaced the chin bar and the helmet came back like new at no charge.
I can not comment about noise. I did have some buffering with the old N100 but now I have an AeroFlow screen and I don't use earplugs anymore.
My next helmet will be a "NOLAN" N102 NCOM

I have had the Synchrotec for five years and it is a very good product. Fairly quiet for a modular style, works well in the rain and it is very comfortable. I will upgrade to the newer version in the spring, as the Synchrotec is now old stock. I'm hoping Shoei done as good a job with the new style.

Thanks to all who replied to my post.

I will look at the Syncrotec 11 and maybe get a bargain at the Scottish Motorcycle show in March.

My Nitro flip front was quiet, but the mechanism broke after a couple of months use. When I returned it to the dealer he offered to replace it with a new one.
Not wanting to have the same problem again I coughed up the difference and
replaced it with the Caberg Justissimo.
