Balancing Act
Hey Guy's
What do you think to the idea of a balancing pipe fitted to the nipples on each
throttle body. I know I have balanced my throttle bodies very well but ..........
Would it do any arm to the runnong of the bike.
By the way it ia a 1150R

OK guys..I just took a couple of pics...arn't digital camera's great.
First you need a piece of tube about two feet long..mine measured about 1" longer than the width of my bars.

Here is where to plug it into on the left side..my bike had a small rubber cap on this brass tube...I'm not sure if they are the same in the US.

Here's the other side..I just passed it through the gap above the engine.

Wow..looking at those pics I just noticed how clean my bike is...it's not bad for 5 1/2 yrs old..

My service guys fitted the balance tube at 30,000 kms to help solve some surging issues. It's been there for 60,000 more kms, and certainly seems to have kept things a bit smoother without going to a Techlusion set-up.
However, the balance tube is a very contentious piece of kit between 'experts' around here. Some don't believe it does anything useful, while others thinks it helps minimise some surging and throttle imbalance. It is NOT a cure-all.
I think you guys in the US have the charcoal canister coming off the same pick-up points, so it means removing the canister. We don't have them, and they make bugger-all difference to anything to do with running smoothness and performance. Just an emissions thing.
Try it - It can't hurt.

Isn't that the nipple you hook up your throttle-body synchronizer to? Can't imagine this does much, 'cause when one throttle body's sucking air for the intake stroke, the other one's just sitting there in front of closed intale valves during the power stroke.
It'd be an interesting experiment to use transparent hoses, and put a bit of some non-harmful fluid -- maybe water or oil -- into the bottom of one of those loops and see if it moves one way or the other, or vibrates back and forth or anything. If it vibrates, then that would show that pressure impulses from one TB are reaching the other. This might have some effect. If the fluid just sits there, then there's no air movement, and the tubes do nothing. You might want to de-sync the TB's and see if that makes any difference. Maybe the tubes do something to help keep the TB's in sync when they're out of adjustment.

You mean when I get round to cleaning mine next month that my shiny black engine finish will be toast?!?!Boxerjonny wrote:Hi,
DJ, I wish mine looked that clean, but I've used her throught too many English winters, BMW frame and body finish copes well, but the engine finish, just falls off at the first sight of road grit/salt.

That wasn't SGT. Schultz, that was the Nazi guy ( I don't know if he had a name or not ) from Rowan & Martin's Laugh In.
Also that is one clean assed bike to be 5 and a half years old. Mine is 3 months old and I doubt if it is that clean. Either you or I need help.
Some weekend if you're not too busy and you're in East Tennessee stop by and give me some cleaning tips. I will pay close attention.
