Exhaust cans

Post by 478cc »

Is there any reason why I could not fit a carbon exhaust can from another bike on my Rockster ?

Obviously it will need to have the same size opening as the outside diameter of the y-piece, and a bracket may need to be made to fit it to the frame mount.
Are the internals different for each bike model? I suspect not.

Cans for BMW's seem to go for silly money on ebay and I was thinking of finding a cheap one from a Jap bike.
Any else done this?

Usually the volume, shape and size are motorcycle specific so that the engine doesn't run too lean or too rich, and to get a certain sound out of the bike. Of course you can put anything on anything else. But don't be surprised if your bike will run like crap though.

I'm no expert but I think it should be ok...I would love an exhaust like the new Suzuki GSX750 has...it's a shame it's for the wrong side.. :(

Lots of people on here have removed the can completely and they say there is no performance downside.
Now I understand that with a y-piece I need some back pressure so a can must be fitted.
Some time ago I read an article about exhaust cans and the only real model specific differences seemed to be the shape of the metal plates at each end, Round or oval, the internals, baffles, tubes etc looked the same.
