For some reason the oil level has decreased in my bike. I've only done about 4500 km (2800 miles) and did the first service at 1200 km. This is my first four stroke bike so I don't know if this is normal or not.
Is there something wrong with my bike? (It still runs like it should, no bad noise. No warning light has come on). I can still see some oil in the inspection window after having riden the bike for a while, but it's really low. Should I just top of with new oil or should I empty the tank and refill with all new oil? What oil should I use? The users manual only says 20W-50, it doesn't say if I should use mineral or synthetic. Then there is the question of brand. My friends rekomend Quaker State or Castrol...
I appreciate all the help I can get.

Kiwi60,
Click the "Search" link at the top of this page and type in oil. You will find all the answers to your questions.
EDIT : I'm being a bit lazy with my post above but oil useage, the proper way to check oil levels and the synthetic/dino debate is one of the most overly discussed topics on this board and there's not much more that can be said that's new.

This is on the sidestand or centerstand? You do want to see oil in the window with it on the centerstand - after letting it drain for about 5 minutes after shutting it off. Mid-window is considered fine.Is there something wrong with my bike? (It still runs like it should, no bad noise. No warning light has come on). Top it off. BMW sells a BMW brand oil in the US (made by Golden Specto) - you might see if they do the same in Sweden. If not - any good grade 20W-50 should be fine. I wouldn't think it's been serviced with synthetic yet since BMW recommends it have the first 6,000 mile service before using synthetic.Should I just top of with new oil or should I empty the tank and refill with all new oil?
