BMW RA Rally 2007 Slideshow

Post by Boxer »

First of all I want to give credit to Brian, Vann, and any others whose photos I used for this slideshow. I think most of the pics are mine, but I used quite a few of others'. I just didn't take enough pictures and not all that I took were good enough.

The background music was snagged from Lo-Fi Breakdown's web site and its there for public consumption so I doubt they care if I used it. I gave them credit and there is a link to their site. They played bluegrass Thursday night, mostly in the dark. An excellent band!

Sparky and I rode two-up with the bike loaded down with camping gear for us both and my dear motorcycle is in bad need of some shocks as well. I was riding kind of LOW all weekend. But we made it! And it was fun. It was much too hot at times and not near enough good cold drinking water to be had.

I hope you enjoy the slideshow. Click HERE.

Very well done Phil! I still haven't decided what to do with my pictures yet, so you haven't really seen any. I think I may make a kind of ride report around the pictures in a web page and post the link.

Thanks for sharing!

Very, very nice! What a great place for a rally. Looks like you had fun Phil. I want that little red airhead! (The bike). What a classy cafe racer it is. Mick.

Thanks Phil, for another one of your fine slideshows. You know you now have a permanent job as ride historian, don't you?

I was able to get the slides to run on dial-up...took 54 min. for the 4 min show.

Sorry JB..
I'm also sorry we didn't get to spend more time with you at the rally. On Friday, after we rode up to Mt. Mitchell we took a short loop up Hwy 80 and back around through Burnside to I-26 and down to Asheville, where we ran through a bit of rain. It felt soooo good in the heat. We also got smashed in the heads with a big heavy chunk of wood from a log truck. It richochet off my helmet and bounced back into Jenny's, making a mark on mine and knocking off some paint. She said her head felt like someone had bonked her with a fist, even through the helmet!
The weekend is just a jumble now, but at some point we got so hot we went to Boston Market to eat lunch and then took in Shrek III for the AC. That must have been Saturday after our Biltmore tour.

Brian..
I have a little...mostly automagic...Nikon CoolPix 4100. The close-up settings are the best/sharpest IMO. I have to change the setting and then remember to change it back, or my regular shots are all screwed up.

Mick..
Yes that was a very sweet little bike. I'm not sure I have it in me, but I'd love to get an old airhead and restore it with a paint job like that. What a project!

Phil - nice job as usual! I liked the fashion shot of us on the lawn of the Estate! We had a good time, at least the time I got to spend there!

Mick - I believe the red cafe model you lust after is a custom from Touring Sport BMW, just down the road in Greenville, SC. It has been written up in the MOA news, I think.
'02 in black - the real BMW color! (Now gone to a new home)

Great job, Boxer, Thank you.

I got a great price and good service on the Ohlins I just installed on my Rockster(In regards to your comment about your R1150R shock being toast). If you haven't chosen a shock dealer yet, I can give a phone # for a dealer. I got a great price, three day shipping direct from Ohlins, and it was perfectly setup right out of the box.

Great work again, Phil. :smt045

The "three guys in shorts and boots" is my favorite. My girlfriend and roomate were laughing at me, while I was wearing a similar outfit breaking in my new boots.
I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray...

You're the master of slide shows Phil. Great job!

BTW, have you checked out the updated SoundSlides? It has some fun new features I think you'll enjoy. I haven't played with it yet but plan to as soon as I get out on another photo trip.

Thanks. That was a terrific slide show. My wife and I had planned to attend but had to back out at the last minute. I'd be interested in hearing more about the rally.

Doff o' the cap once again Boxer - you sure are gettin' good at this! I really liked the shots of you and your Bride. I can see in your eyes (both of yours), some of the history and soul of your lives together -very cool. Keep bringin' it (easy for me to say!) - your sync is extraordinary! 8)
