All in all I'm very glad my bike came with the 380 screen fitted... looks great, IMO, and provides good general protection. I still wish there was an add-on lip or something similar to deflect the air over my helmet for the occasional longer, higher speed run. I don't really want to go to the expense of buying another screen for these infrequent occasions. Next month I'll be riding across Germany with some old friends from Wales who will be well protected behind the substantial screens fitted to their Honda Valkyries and Gold Wings... must say I'm not looking forward to the long, fast Autobahn sections :( I guess I need to get used to peering through a multitude of zapped bugs between stops :wink:

Otherwise I'm very much looking forward to the ride :)

MRA now sells thier flip up spoilers as a seperate item now. You could see if any of the available profiles would work with the 380 screen. I fitted a VTA 9 to my Cee Baileys sport screen. It was an improvement over just the sport screen, but not nirvana. I wish that MRA would make one of thier vario screens to fit the 380 brackets, they are the only windshield brackets that are available from BMW.

does anyone know which holes the bracket for the 380mm screen mounts to on the bike. Is it the same PITA holes that the touring screen goes into? I took the touring screen off because one of the upper brackets kept coming loose, and now I can't get it back on. I'm afraid I cross threaded the bolt and can't get it back in.

I agree with the DR."but that wellnut design was terrible on my bike with my brackets. Going 70 and seeing one of them work its way loose is not assuring." Not the best design,if not the worst. :P

Oh, man, I share your pain, that's what drove me to the 380.
To answer your question: No, it's another set of PITA holes. But it can be done and the instructions that come with the 380 are pretty good.

And the 380 is very solid. very.

Oh yes, and it should be mentioned that taking the 380 off for a good cleaning is not nearly the adventure that taking off the touring screen is. The 380 goes back on without any drama.

its a super shield :smt082

i used to have the speedster but that did nearly to nothing compaired with the naked bike.

this high shield (380mm) not that high is great. while normal riding i prefer to have my visor above the shield. untill 100 mls/hr than i just lean forward a bit and either look just over or through the windshield for max speed.
the airflow just goes over your helmet.

i can highly recommend this shield

I have the sport shield and have been intrigued by the 380 since someone elsew posted pics of the 380. The sport shield does not work its way loose like the touring shiled did, but it is still noisy.

Do these pics help anyone to identify the screen?

BTW, what do you think of my Verholen bar-backs? I think they look good and they've certainly made the riding position more comfortable for me...

WRONG. This screen uses the same exact PITA holes that I described before.

ok, here's the next question to this?....
Is anyone over 6'-2" and have the 380 screen?
I have the touring screen and it is great at the high speeds,
but have an uneasiness about switching to the 380 if highway
speeds whip my big ol' mellon around.. :lol:

On the touring screen there are 4 bolts holding the bracket. The two that are closest to the rider are under the lateral aspects of the instrument panel. These two are the most PITA to screw in or out. These same two holes are used for the 380.
There are two other bolts for the touring screen and these attach on a bracket just inside of the small fairing medial to the turn signal. Not nearly as much a PITA. The 380 does not use these at all.

There is no denying that the bolts referred to as a PITA are definitely that, especially on the touring screen.

The 380 uses a third bolt that screws in right below the center of the intrument panel. The touring screen does not use this. To access it requires loosening the headlight and disengaging it from its bracket.

I found the bolts ( for the 380)for the two lateral PITA holes easier to put in than dealing with the touring screens bolts by a fair margin, ScooterCop. It helped me to have a ball-head hex wrench and one shortened surgically with a dremel.

Eric, I am almost 5'8" and the wind hits me in the visor with the 380, easily 3" + lower than the touring screen. It doesn't bother me much, but I am thinking about trying to adapt the touring screen to the 380's bracket--the holes do not line up, new holes need to be cut.
The wind doesn't "whip" my head. Others have described the airflow as "smoother" with the 380.

i'm 6'1" and have the 380 screen and can recommend it!

at first when i bought my first bike i also selected the "small" sport screen
nicely blue to match with my atlanta blue bike.

but for me it did nearly to nothing compaired with a true naked bike.

than i retured it to the dealer for an 380 screen, which truly makes a difference i enjoy every km i drive.

and achieve my goal to hit the 180 km/h a day :smt026

even in bussy traffic :D

most of the time i ride straight up and when traffic eases i lean forward my eyes just above the screen and save fuel going over 140 km/h

leaning more forward and looking through the screen is also possible.

I am 6'2" with a long torso. The 380mm will direct smooth air into your face. Takes the pressure off your chest and does not cause buffeting of your helmet at highway speeds. The only down side is bugs on the face shield.
