Are there any reasons not to use the accessory power port for a battery maintenance plug in port?

I use mine for this purpose - absolutely fine as the current draw is very low.
I have a separate socket with heavy-duty cables for jump-starting. Have never had to use it but it's good insurance against a flat battery!

Everyday. The BMW charger came with the plug for it, so it must be OK.

I believe the auxiliary plug is protect by a 15 amp fuse, and there aren't many battery chargers that put out that much current, so it should be fine. Trickle chargers typically only put out ~ 1-2 amps.
