Question on Bags Connection quicklong ring for the tank

Post by Skippy »

I've mounted the bags connection quicklock tankbag today but noticed that the ring that replaces the gascap surround(the original moel has no holes) is actualy for an R1200S and stands a bit higher then the original surround. Is this normal or did I get the wrong surround and should have gotten a model esspecialy for the R1200R. The fuell cap fits fine by the way.

This was the part number for the ring I ordered. Fits fine - TRT.00.475.123 SW-MOTECH

Thanks Thinman that's the same number that is on my ring and the bag said R1200S. The gascap fits well in it and when you open the gas cap and look on the inside there is no space between the ring and the red plastic bit. On the outside though the ring is higher then the tank is and not flush like the original ring. The space between the tank and the ring is about 1 or 2mm and I can see the red plastic witch is underneath it. I can imagine water and dirt getting in there very easely. Can you please tell me if the ring you have does fit flush with the tank Thinman just to make sure I understand you wright when you say that it fits fine and maybe you ale can provide me with a picture(I pm you my normal e-mail adress) just to be sure, cause when yours is flush maybe I did something wrong(although there's nut mutch to do wrong) and I will be taking it up with the dealer who sold it as he also is interested in what's going on.

Sorry for being so eleberate on the question but I just want to be sure what's going on.

Thanks to Thinmans pictures I now know that everything fits the way it should be. I bought the Trial QL bag and am very pleased with it. It looks very well made and holds quite a lot of stuff( keep the weight down though as the manufacturer advises to keep it around 3kg). I could fit enough clothes in there for a weekend riding and some shoes. Side pockets are handy to for cell phones, sunglasses whatever. Also very handy is a point where you can mount a navigation system or pda/iPod in a seperatly sold holder, something I will be thinking of in the future for fitting a car oriantated gps system like a Garmin Nuvi. On the twistedthrottle site the trail bag isn't mentioned if you look at R1200R specific bags but it fits great. Only thing that was a bit of a pain was fitting the very short bolts threw the base of the tankbag and the quicklock plate, one just wouldnt come thrue enough and I would say it is a very very tight fit, now it's done though the fitment is very need and the quicklock system is an absolute joy to use. Will take some pictures and post them asap.

Ronald (Skippy) - sent a response to your PM.

I can see whet you mean now about the red plastic being visible under the SWMotech replacement fuel cap surround that the tank ring mounts to. Looks like Thinman has the same thing.

Mine fitted almost perfectly flush without any problems - certainty none of the red plastic visible. I have ten thumbs - and the whole thing went together just fine.

Could it be an issue with the fuel cap surround on your bikes - maybe arising from plumbing for the charcoal canister you guys have? Can't think of another reason yours would fit differently - you'd think they'd be from the same manufacturing run ....
