a short, slightly wet, ride today...

Post by tobes »

Not too much of a ride to report on here. With rain in the forecast for Saturday evening and all Sunday I decided to set the alarm for 6:00 am Saturday and get some ride time in.

Early morning clouds over Saddle Peak Rd

I went to check out RT 33 but it was closed. The Amgen Tour of California came through town. All roads through Ojai were shut down for about 30 mins.

Note the camera man leaning off the side of this BMW. Aside from the police and support vehicles, there were quite a few BMWs riding along with this tour.

Then the rain started. I headed back into the hills behind Malibu and played in the rain for a while then headed home.

Today was at least the 4th time that I'm out riding in the local hills and when coming around a turn I see a photographer with pro looking gear crouched down snapping pics of riders coming by. Not a big deal but it kinda throws you when in mid turn you see someone snapping a pic of you from the corner of your eye. Anyway, was wondering what that was about? They're usually on Mulholland but I've seen them in Angeles Crest too.

Tobes, great photos again. Thank you. Your previous reports were what helped me choose California for my most recent trip.

I was in Ojai last Friday. What a great motorcycle road 33 was!! And the restaurant, Boccalli's had the best Ravioli I've ever eaten!

I was on the coast as far north as Carpenteria, as far east as Joshua Tree, and as far north in central as Fountain Springs near Ducor, and as far south as PineValley along 8 east of El Cajon. I think I could have spent another ten days and still not discover all the great roads you have out there just in the south. I'm working on a ride report, but nine days is a lot of report!

Thanks again for the great reports from your area. I'll be out that way again as soon as I get another chance and time and money to do so.

You guys need to put together a Bash out there.

Wow, it sounds like you had a great ride and covered quite a bit of ground. I can’t wait to see your report. :D Glad you liked the 33. It's a fun ribbon of road. I’m curious as to what Fountain Springs is like. I’d like to ride that area. If you do get out this way again PM me and I’ll send you my info. It would be fun to meet up with other site members and perhaps do a bash out this way. Safe and happy rides!
