National Cycle Windscreens

Anyone ever tried one of the National Cycle F-15, F16 or F18 screens on an R11R? I have the stock touring screen with a laminar lip & I like it but I would like a smaller screen for the summer. Hopefully one without too much buffeting. I know they are different for everyone, but I would like to hear all opinions.

Emailed on guy who had one on a 2000 R11R & the only thing he said was it was somewhat cheap. No info on how well it performed.

I have not made up my mind yet, also considering a MRA Vario screen.

Interesting... all those numbers are all modern day jetfighter aircraft numbers

I recently purchased and installed a National Cycle F16 on my '96 R850R. The mounting hardware is kind of ugly and the first thing I did was peel off the ugly National Cycle sticker. Bike handles much better without the standard wind screen that attaches to the handle bars. The F16 offers less wind protection and produces about the same wind noise. Original owner of our R1150R installed a National Cycle "Deflector" aftermarket windshield, a model that's designed to attached to tubular handlbars. The mounting pieces would likely be useless for a R850/1100R Roadster with cast aluminum handlbars, but if anyone's interested then the "Deflector" is free to the first PM in my mailbox, you pay shipping charges.

We've had the factory BMW windscreen on both R850R and R1100R, and it's very good quality (corresponding to weight and cost), and a nice addition to that series Roadster. My only complaint was the height of the shield relative to my helmet position, which put the top edge turbulence right in my face (and ears); a bungee cord stretched across the front face of the shield helped tame the buffeting a little.

FWIW- Mrs. Sweatmark and I now prefer to ride R1150R Roadster and Rockster without any windshield, and have had very few instances where we wished for the weather protection.

I have a Cee Baileys on my R and it is perfect. I am 6'2" and, according to CeeBaileys the screen I have is taller and wider than the stock screen. I have the seat in the highest position and have smooth air running over my helmet (good for cooling the noggin ) plus I get some nice cooling 'turbulence' around my torso.

I just sold a Cee Baileys screen, it was way too tall for me. I was looking through it instead of over it. I really didn't notice that much wind difference between that one and the stock screen. I ordered a National Cycles F-16 touring screen that should arrive this week. I will post my thoughts after I get it installed.

Well, I tried the F-16 touring shield. I pretty much decided to return it before it was mounted. The screen was very thin & flimsy and the mounting system left a lot to be desired. Not surprising considering it is a universal fit.

It actually looked decent on the bike. It had a lot of vibration when moving, I would have to brace it if I kept it. The air flow over it was fairly smooth, it hit my shoulders when adjusted in the highest position. Definitely noisier than the stock screen with a laminar lip. I did like not having the screen in my line of sight. Over all though, I was not close to keeping it. I will continue my search.

Does anyone have any experience with the Givi A750 ( http://store.bobsbmw.com/index.asp?Page ... ProdID=258 ) or the MRA VarioTouringScreen ( http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/pr ... /1865/300/ )?

Let me know if you have any more questions about the F-16. By the way I got it from JC Whitney because the have a 100% satisfaction return policy.

Which Cee Baileys screen did you get? I am 6' 3 1/2" and am dying to get something taller than stock screen on my R. Due to my height, have to ride with seat in highest position and long rides are a pain in the neck (literally)!! The screens from Clearview (also referenced in this thread) look pretty good, too, but the Cee Baileys look about $80 cheaper.

I bought an R1100RL late last year. it had a Parabellum Scout fairing on it. I didn't realize BMW offered a windshield for this bike. According to my dealer, BMW doesn't offer anything for this bike any more. What is the BMW mounting hardware? What does it look like? I am wondering if I already have it on the Scout fairing. I took the Scout off. I would like to have a smaller shield, mainly just to protect the gauges.

I have the same bike and there is a BMW screen for it. Although the R1100R is now considered (I guess) an older model bike, they probably don't keep it in stock. I had mine repaired after a wreck last year and the dealer replaced the windshield, including new mounting brackets [hardware],I had had installed when I bought it new. That is the same screen I bought and I heartily recommend it if you plan on long distance travel, particularly with inclimate weather. Several pix are posted under my "My Touring Setup" posting elsewhere on this board.

As you can see, the larger screen does, indeed, offer greater protection. And the Cee Baileys screen shown in the pic is same as philbytx commented on - 4" wider and 4" taller than the stock.
