ABS Question

Post by macx »

Have just started riding my "new" 04 r1150ra.
25k miles

Did spend some "quality time" with my rider's manual -
there's as many switches, buttons, and indicator lights
on that as there is on my car!

Anyway, have notice that the brake warning light flashes
for maybe 30 seconds after I start the bike cold.

Then the light goes out, doesn't flash any more, and the
brakes seem to work just fine.

Is that a problem, or normal? I hope it's not a symptom of
that ABS unit going out? Or is the system just building pressure?

Thanks for any info!

That is exactly what is supposed to happen. It turns off when you reach 2-3 mph. If that sequence you described changes, then you have a problem.

Thanks!! MAJOR relief! :!: Understand that's an expensive system to repair.

Didn't notice anything about that particular situation when I read thru the manual.

Happy Motoring All!!

The ABS system will flash the light until the front wheel has done a complete rotation - this is the ABS system calibrating itself (or something).
