Bad day- crashed my Rockster- need tech help

Post by dutchbikes »

I just crashed my 2004 rockster on the way to work.

The bike landed on the left side and really hit the cyclinder head hard. I did not notice any leaking. The bike crashed at a very slow speed ( 15mph) I pick up the bike sans my pride.

The bike starts fine but when I put the bike in gear it would stall. Can anyone tell me what to look for to correct this matter.

Please advise and thank you in advance.

Sorry to hear about your accident, but glad to know that you seem to be OK!

I'm by no means a mechanically inclined kind of guy, but this sounds remarkably like it involves your sidestand switch -- the one that cuts off the fuel to the engine if the bike is in gear and the sidestand is down. You went down on your left side, where the sidestand is, so I bet you a cookie that either your sidestand has been bent and doesn't retract fully, or the switch itself has been damaged.

Check that switch, you can unplug it and bypass it to test it. You probably didn't do any major mechanical damage. I crashed my 1150R in April, low sided it at about 35 and it flipped and got both sides. Very expensive to replace all the parts with me doing all the labor (new tank at $1000), but the bike runs and drives like it did before the mishap. They are pretty tough machines. Yours should be fine.

Thanks all for the information. I am ok. I will check the side stand.

Thanks again - this is a great place.

Update - The bike is well. I was not thinking after ( before) the crash. The kickstand was down when I tried to put the bike in gear after the crash.
Now it is time to rebulid and restore the Bemmer.$$$

Thanks to Byrdguy and Sparky for their support.

You might want to try A&S cycles for valve covers, they had used ones that looked like new for half the price.
